Forums - Microsoft - LIVE On PC Is Free.

I just wondered how people feel about the fact PC owners can play all XB1 games online for free while XB1 owners pay to maintain the servers? I'm not saying there's really anything intrinsically wrong with it because clearly people have a choice but it strikes me as odd that this isn't getting discussed.

That's actually a good question.

Well, the people that pay for the service are getting free games right? So thats something. There is no way MS can charge for online on PC. They tried it and it failed harshly and for good reasons as well but on xbox, it has been the norm since the xbox one. Like the old one, not the new one. So I don't think anyone cares much.

PC users don't even like the Windows Store and those that play games from it will just have the free online without the other features like the free games. I will say if MS does make Xbox Live free for all owners, it would be one raep announcement.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I'm cool with not paying for a stupid subscription on PC

It would kind of funny if they tried it.

One more reason not to own an Xbox.

They already do as far as I know. Do PC gamers pay for online when playing XB1 games? And remember, MS are also pushing for cross play.

Of course it's free on PC. PC gamers would reject it wholeheartedly when Windows 10 gaming needs whatever good press it can get. I'm in the mindset that it's silly for gamers to have to pay for a network service to play their games online anyway. Console makers do it because console only gamers have to jump through those hoops.

People will be ok with it, for the same reason a vast majority of console gamers are ok with limited genres, closed marketplace, weaker hardware, vastly more expensive games, etc etc. The alternative just isn't desirable.

The same way anyone who pays for online gaming on a console when you can do it for free on other platforms feels, I'd assume.
