Forums - Sony - Sony: PS4 Neo, PS4 Slim to be the last upgrade for PS4's console cycle

You're comparing mobile games with console games. Plus, take Minecraft, for eg. Not compatible with IPhone 4 and older. So, it's not just a matter of saying "this is an IPhone game". It doesn't work on all iPhones.

But if there's never going to be a PlayStation 6 because they're switching over to iterative hardware with full backwards compatibility then why name them "ps5" games for eternity.

Please put in bold letters that this is your opinion.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Because they won't be playable on PS4s, PS3s ,etc.

Now my question is, will ps4 games work with ps5? If they do than great but if they dont, than I might like MS route better. We will see tho

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Dont like this at all. If you're making a new console, it should be part of a new gen. It can have compatibility with its predicessor, but it should be defined as a new gen, not a mid-gen upgrade that is needed for the best experience.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

What is wrong with the bold? If you don't want to pay more for a better experience then stay with the XBO/PS4 base model, if someone wants to spend more money to have a better experience then they should be able to, it'd be selfish to not want a neo/scorpio because you don't want someone else to have a better experience than you.

I buy a console exactly for this reason. I'm not interesting in upgrading to a piece of hardware thats still does the same as its predicessor. If I wanted that, I'd build a PC and have much more freedom. I have no problem if lifecycles are 4-5 years, but give me a new gen of hardware.

Then don't upgrade. Done.

I bet they will considering there's no way Sony is going to ditch the x84 architecture. If Sony keeps the hardware configuration similar (e.g. keeping a unified RAM pool, but using HBM in place of GDDR5), then there should be few issues achieving backwards compatibility.

i highly doubt MS will able to let you play new games for a six years old console generation, at some point you have to make a cut. This is the same on PC, i cant play DX11 games for my 6 years old graphicscard.

I expect that PS with the X and X.5 versions and Xbox with however they decide to name their interactions will have no more then 2 and streaching 3 during transition versions of the console having games launched to (maybe indies will survive longer)
