Forums - Gaming - Xbox One S won't give games a performance boost

ARTICLE: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-06-15-xbox-one-s-wont-give-games-a-performance-boost-microsoft-insists

Xbox One games will look "identical" on Xbox One S, Microsoft has said, despite the newer console's slight boost in processing power.

Speaking with Eurogamer today at E3, Xbox planning lead Albert Penello stated that the additional CPU and GPU access granted to developers for Xbox One S in order to enable HDR will have "literally no impact" on the performance of games.

i think this is a good move because you don't want to split your user base even more

did he mention framerate

reading the article he mentioned games will play identical on both consoles except for the new hdr function, so the framerate should be unaffected by what I read in the interview/article.

"I promise, it won't even show up. It will have no impact on games at all. Literally no impact. They will be identical. It's nothing, it is literally nothing."

I thought I read somewhere the coalition boss saying it will make games better looking.

A developer from gears of war started that rumor but it is nothing more then a confirmed to be false rumor at this point, the console is slightly faster that is true because of the shrink in the processor size but this will not impact the games in any way, as stated by phil so I am sure even if there is a difference its not intentional and its basicly the same console, so there is no reason to get this console for better performance

"According to Fergusson, the Xbox One S has additional raw GPU and CPU power compared to the Xbox One, and The Coalition's engineers have been able to take advantage of that to reduce the frequency of frame rate or resolution penalties in more demanding sections of the game."

Odd. I am curious who is actually right here - and if that is an actual quote from Ferbusson.

Thanks, thats what i read reported. I thought it was the boss and not just a dev at the studio that said it.

This is a responce after the quote from Ferbusson to nullify his statement which started lots of rumors, so this is the latest and official statement, so no chance in performance.

Well, I know my model C PS4 plays games a LOT quieter than the model A and B units do. And at a 40 watts savings too. So there probably is benefits to the Xbox S that no one knows about yet. Being newer has to have some things better.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

Ok thanks. Was Ferbusson lying, confused, or just not aware of what is going on? He didn't just mentional the raw GPU/CPU (which is technically true) but went on to talking about his engineers and how they were taking advantage of it to keep frame rate/resolution up in demand spots.

I mean that is a pretty specific example.

I guess we won't know unless omeone asks him again but maybe he was referring to the extra gpu and cpu power that is used in HBR, but it wont improve the resolution or framerate, that is clear now

It is only a matter of time before one of these clickbait sites is sued for putting out lies as facts and putting people out of pocket.
