I already have a 8600gt XXX but I would buy another one and put it in SLI which would be the same speed as a 8800GTS.

Or maybe the E6300 with an FSB of 1066.

I recently build a whole new pc, with ssj12's suggestions, for under $1000 with the E8400.

How much were you trying to spend?

Under 500$ for a mobo, processor, ram, case and power supply.

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119088

$40

Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171028

$40

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059

$90

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037

$250

Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134218&Tpk=KHX8500D2K2%252f2G

$67

TOTAL = $ 487

I have these exact pieces, different PSU, and they work great. Very fast, CoD4 at highest levels too. And my Video card is the 8600GT 512MB.

not bad not bad at all

but does he have his mouse, keyboard, and monitor purchased?

That seems pretty nice but there is still shipping and tax.

Unless you are in a state that charges Newegg for tax (I think just California) you only have to pay for shipping. Some of those items have free shipping so that shouldn't be too big of a deal. You might be able to downgrade the ram a pip and make up the shipping in that way.

Could swap out the MOBO I picked with this one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131071R

Still $90, might need a different PSU too.

Also, shipping might push it to just barely $500 and there should be no tax unless you live in CA.

Thanks a lot superchunk.

So it would be better to get a cheaper mobo and better processor?

I might get charged duties though since I live in Canada.

Lastly, even if the price is just over your $500 point, it is still a much, much faster machine than you have mentioned already. Look at that tom's hardware links I and Luinil posted above for comparisons.
