I already have a 8600gt XXX but I would buy another one and put it in SLI which would be the same speed as a 8800GTS.

I recently build a whole new pc, with ssj12's suggestions, for under $1000 with the E8400. How much were you trying to spend? |
Under 500$ for a mobo, processor, ram, case and power supply.

I would have enough money for the AMD but not the Intel.
And btw I'm not trying to build the world's fastest computer just something that has a decent speed.

I was trying to look up my laptops Intel Core 2 Duo T5550, but couldn't seem to find it. Not sure why.
I don't really keep up with this stuff anymore, though I use to subscribe to a bunch of PC mags. I've heard that AMD's are usually cheaper, and so if you don't need it for heavy games, then it's the way to go. But that might have change in the past few years that I've been out of the loop. I recall AMD cards usually being better (especially considering the price, more bang for your buck), but, again, that might have change. So basically, ignore everything you just read (and no, I will not refund you your 10 seconds).
I know the day I plan on building my on computer (2 more years and out of college) I'm going to get a lot of help from people on this site. lol
Anyone have any insight as to when/if Intel will the ditch the 775 socket?

Ok ssj12 here are my options:
Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2GHz, 1000MHz FSB with a Asus M2N-SLI mobo
or
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz, 1066MHz FSB with a Asus P5N-E SLI
Which do you recommend?

Intel , amd was better in single core, now it seems intel is better.
If those are your options go with the Athon

I have these exact pieces, different PSU, and they work great. Very fast, CoD4 at highest levels too. And my Video card is the 8600GT 512MB.
EDIT: ohhh, just realized the SLi option is needed....
