Good for you.I see most dying to play it,others(another)being "critical"about a story driven trailer with no gameplay.

No need to be passive-aggressive. If you disagree with my perspective, I'd like to hear how and why. I'm happy to have a respectful conversation with you.
Also, it looks like Sony has mastered the full year release schedule. Even as it stands right now, we still have:
GT Sport, No Man's Sky and other third party games like Star Ocean, Persona 5, the Dreams Beta, and an entire suite of VR games release this year.
Next year for me I want FF12: Zociac Age, Horizon: ZD, and Detroit: BH.

I just find it weird that you choose this trailer from a GG games to rant about the stuff you are ranting.
Its a new ip in a new genre they never explore. GG never did make every year releases. They even delayed it to improve the game. They never had buggy game. They never had day one annoying patches. Or garbage DLC plans. Its not a cgi trailer. They already showed gameplay and will probably show next week a new demo. etc. |
I don't think I was ranting. I thought I laid out my thesis in a focused and dispassionate way.
Anyway, this isn't about Guerrilla's resume. It's about negative trends in the industry. I'm asking people to pause and reflect on this medium we all love so much, instead of getting caught up in a wave of hype.
Again, if you're fine with the way things are, then more power to you. I'm not. The video game industry in 2016 is a mess. Profits soar higher and higher every year, yes, but creatively we've hit a brick wall. And publishers are finding new and creative ways to separate us from our money.
I know it's a lot easier to argue back and forth about this exclusive being better than that exclusive, or bragging about Metacritic scores. I know it's not easy to have these difficult conversations and really analyze our behavior and attitudes. But it would do us good.
Watching that trailer I have no faith in Guerrilla's ability to tell a compelling story, hopefully they prove me wrong. Regardless the world looks amazing and I'm glad to see there is man vs man combat. Presumably they'll have a big demo planned for E3.
With this, Gravity Rush 2 and The Last Guardian the PS4 is really putting emphasis back onto the adventure game. I love it!

OK cool.Last year they showed a demo of the game showing mechanics and other elements,we didn't really know the story(we still don't)then.I think it is only fair(my opinion of course)that this trailer was appropriate and should be given some slack, for not showing gameplay.

An extended gameplay trailer can certainly give someone a good sense of how the game plays. Sure, you can't feel the rumble in your palms or the weight and agility of each character, but it's pretty darn close. A demo, of course, is best, but those are becoming less and less common - again, because publishers want us on the hook before we ever get our hands on the game. And you're right: we as consumers are complicit. We enable companies to take advantage of us. |
oh dear god man,.. this is an RPG and story is a massive part of the genre. this is the first and only story trailer. this game was announced with a live gameplay demo. it was followed up with an extended gameplay trailer. to date we've only have gameplay trailers and no story. a trailer focused on the story is long overdue and necessary for those of us that enjoy the story elements of a game. please just stop derailing this thread about horizon with your rant about the state of the industry.
OT - trailer was amazing. love seening mounts are confirmed by this trailer.

Yeah, the gameplay we saw last year looked really good. I included it among the top 10 trailers of E3.
That's why I was so bummed that in this three-minute trailer we got zero gameplay. I want to see more of what I saw in 2015. It's entirely possible that we'll see new gameplay footage at E3, so I can definitely look forward to that.
But, in general, as I wrote above, I treat story trailers like this with a fair amount of suspicion.
Anyway, I certainly didn't intend to drag the conversation off course or take away from the excitment of a release date. Here's hoping Sony's E3 will be a knock-out :)
