Resident Evil 7 Will Be at E3 and Will Go Back to Horror Roots

Japanese analyst Serkan Toto from Kantan Games revealed today in a tweet that Resident Evil 7 is in development and the game will return to the horror roots it was known for with the PS1 trilogy. In addition, he also tweeted that the game will be making an appearance at this year’s E3 and that a designer by the name of Jordan Amaro who worked on Kojima Productions’ Metal Gear Solid V and P.T. has been hired to work on Resident Evil 7.

The Resident Evil series have been action-focused since Resident Evil 4. Does this news inhibit confidence in this game? Let us know in the comments below.

Why not just mix the Resident Evil 5 gameplay with the classic mansion/Raccoon City design? I'm not sure I'd like to go back to tank controls and having to carry keys in my inventory that weight as much as a shotgun, to be honest.

Thank god. A horror game must have restrictive controls to be good. If you are a superheroe it doesnt work well.

I don't really agree. Games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Condemned or The Evil Within build up a very strong horror immersion without restricting or limiting the player's control in any way or shape. Those three games are pretty damn great, also.

By going to its roots, they just mean the horror elements of it, that it will (hopefully) have the chilling atmosphere and the more survival focused of the first games.Nobody said about tank controls and whatnot. That actually would make zero sense.Itwill certainly have modern controls, just with going back to be a truly survival horror game.I really dont understand how people read this and think they are bringing the tank controls back

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Well, it's Capcom the ones we're talking about. That company wouldn't find a middle ground even if you gave them a map. They work in extremes. xD

I agree, they should rather make it like clock tower or haunting ground, remove the guns completley. You cant make it both ways tbh

I don't much care about the controls. I just want regular zombies and a simpler story. No global terrorist orginisations, biological warefare or any of that junk. Just a virus outbreak somewhere with the goals of the game to be 1. Survive 2. Escape from virus area 3. Find origin/cure for virus.

Oh and I'd like a decent number of characters too (not necessarily playable though). For starters running around alone (as in many RE games) doesn't exactly give the best chance of survival. Realistically people would stick together in such a situation. Plus I'd much rather see a plot focusing on characters trying to survive/deal with a virus outbreak than some of the silly plots in the latest games. Also, having more characters and having lots of interaction with them, gives you more chance to kill them off during the story and have people actually care.

I'm a hardcore RE fan and I can tell you right now, there is no way they can roll back to a simpler plot without pissing the fans off or ruining what Resident Evil is now about. I'm not sure if you've played Revelations 2 yet, but that really expanded on the core plot of the series and continued a major storyline. One of the major character's is still being developed in the "Heavenly Island" Manga, and Umbrella Corps will likely nudge a hint towards the fall of Tri-cell.

There is also a new Pharmaceutical company named Shenya Pharmaceuticals. They are a Chinese company and are very much likely the company that was referred to as "Umbrella's Rival" company in RE2. The one that Ada was likely working for, and one that a certain villain has worked with, likely for her own gain.

The Revelation games are much more catered to the core fans and blend the style of gameplay with the survival horror elements. Revelations 2 is probably the best game in the series along with RE4 and the RE remake on Game Cube.

I was scared in resident evil 2 because of 3 things:

-the camera.

- the clumsy controls.

- the fact that if i died i had to do a lot of things again. Now if you die you respawn at the last door.
