Forums - Sony - Future PS4 games will perform better, thanks to the PS4K!

Performance or visuals?

Performance! 27 32.53%

Visuals! 14 16.87%

Both! (obligatory #pcmasterrace button) 42 50.60%

Total:83

I thought I'd expand on my thought earlier and give it its own thread because I'm starting to like this theory a lot.

So the basic idea is that past games on PS4 suffered performance issues and/or reduced resolution because developers like to show off. They want to present the best possible "next gen" graphics, so they're pumping this poor little APU full of all those neat graphical features that make the game slightly prettier but also run like shit.

Now with a beefed up PS4K developers have more power to work with and can use its hardware to show off their fancy graphics. Which means there is no need for them to torture the old PS4 with fancy lighting, shadows or AA because the promotional footage will all be done on PS4K. With that out of the way developers can focus on performance instead of visual fidelity.

That doesn't mean that PS4 games will look noticeably worse but just that it will look slightly less fancy.

While this is just a theory I really hope developers will go that route. Because I think people deserve performance over visuals given the choice.

Would love this to be true.

I definitely don't see this happening though.

Too early to say ...

Devs could torture the PS4K enough to have sub-30FPS ...

I agree

Definitely, but that's not the topic. PS4K games that are dropping below 30 are almost inevitable but that does not have to mean that PS4 will perform much worse. Sadly there is still no law against devs who don't give a shit on performance.

That'll be the case with some games, indeed.
I expect Bloodborne load times to be shortened with it.

That sentence does not make any sense with this topic.

There are two sentences there. Which one, and why not?

The second one. Bloodborne is not a future game. Loading times will be the same on PS4 and PS4K unless they use heavily reduced textures on PS4, which I doubt.

Hope thats true.

Your right that the PS4 doesn't have to perform worse but your also right about some devs not giving a shit about performance so that's the end of it since we don't know if devs are interested or not in downgrading their games on baseline PS4 ...

Well ps4 games are required to run worse than the ps4k versions, so there's that.

A game's frame-rate must meet or exceed its equivalent performance level on base PlayStation 4 hardware.
