Warhawk Needs Training Wheels!

March 24th, 2008 · 8 Comments

In case you didn’t know, I got a PS3 over the weekend. Yay for me… Anyway, the first game I played was Warhawk, as there was no other game I anticipated playing more. It’s great fun and I know it’s an online game, but it seriously needs a tutorial.

I mean come on people…

Being thrusted into combat without the slightest idea how to fly, or drive the vehicles puts you at a severe disadvantage against even the most novice of players. I know you can read the manual, but that gets annoying when you are trying to fight the enemy. Who does that?

There are the little combat tips that pop up when you discover new weapons, but they are of little help and they cover up a quarter of the screen. It’s almost as annoying as trying to get the hang of an aircraft while some d-bag repeatedly blows you out of the sky while he barrel rolls by. Thanks jerk!

I’m not asking for a major tutorial, just a couple of training missions on the the use of the vehicles. Maybe 5 minutes of total time discussing the differences between regular flight and hovering mode, or how to lock on with missiles. Then maybe a little free play to let players get the hang of everything. Anything to keep me from going 0-10 in my first 5 matches.

Eventually I got the hang of it, but it was quite frustrating. I actually had to take a break from getting owned. How about a training stage in the next update?

For the noobs.

I feel this dude, pain. This is why I cannot understand certain games whereas they have no type of training session before you go online and face competition. I have Warhawk, but I have not been playing it because of this factor. Meanwhile Resistance: Fall of Man is like that, where you have to learn as you play without having a skill system where you are playing with people with similar skill. Thats what I like about Halo 3 because it would find someone with similar skill and make the matches equal.

To makes things worse i was just playing the game and noticed that someone has managed to be able to cheat in the game now... the joys!

Still a great game though :D

I know what you mean, i does get frustrating when your starting out, and adding a training mission wouldnt take long to do.

find a friend, create your own server, lock other people out, if your both noobs practise against each other and if only one of you is a noob get the non-noob to show you how to play.

no I've got about 50 hours in and if I recall correctly a 3.97 kill to death ratio.  If I picked it up now I would be a little rusty seeing as I haven't played it in over two months due to the rehooking up of my snes and the purchase of folklore and assasins creed.

Told you that game would frustrate you but do you listen to me Ecurbj...nuuuuuu...i'm always right >:3....lol

I guess the writer doesn't know you can just make a local game and practice to your heart's content.
