MvsC was considered a save move because of its American Mass Market appeal with Marvel IP but look what happened with it now. It bombed, it probably is outsold by TekkenxStreetfighter by now. It cost them 100s of Millions to devolope and marketing this game and they cant even sell it now dueto Disneys expensive lincences, same with Marvel vs Capcom 2 which was avaible as HD remaster.

If they would have chosen Darkstalkers 4 it wouldnt have sold alot @day 1 but over time with Digital Sales and Retail restocks as well as DLC and ports to PC, PS4 and X1 it would have sold just as much if not even more than Marvel over time.

Its exactley these ''Save Bets'' mentallity that drove capcom down where there are now because these Western markets are nothing but save for a japanese company, look at the SFV hate-tirade. Or crying and bitching about Resident Evil if its supposed to be scarry or not.

According to VGC, vanilla MvC3 on the 360, aka the worse selling vanilla version of that game, sold over 50% more by itself than literally every Darkstalkers game to have ever come out, including rereleases, put together. Ultimate MvC on the Vita sold almost half of the entire Darkstalkers franchise put together. Let's not talk about games bombing. Darkstalkers 4 wouldn't have come even remotely close to passing MvC3.

I'm not arguing what is or is not good for gamers. I'm arguing what's realistic to expect of Capcom. Darkstalkers is a financial failure of a franchise. Capcom isn't going to waste money on a sequel when they couldn't even get SFV to be a success. Not for a very long time.

Yeah and how much did the disney licenses cost them? This game single handetley made capcom almost bankrupt. If not for the next day but then soon enough, you could pretty much see the news after this game came out how capcom had omly 256 million or something left in the bank.

The Darkstalkers games also made more money with arcade sales than everything of MvC3, probably DS1 alone even

Fix Street Fighter first.

Seriously Oni. You shouldn't be thinking about anything but Street Fighter V at the moment.

its one of the best fighting games currently and you have SF

I actually bought SFV, a year's worth of PS+, and a Hori $60 fight pad just for SFV.  After about a day, I went and paid $30 for SFIV on PS4 DESPITE already having Ultra SFIV and a fight pad for Xb360. I couldn't be happier!

SFV has so many issues that keep me from wanting to play it. I try it every few days before going back to SFIV. When all is said and done, I expect SFV to be better besides just graphics but right now, it's just not what I was hoping for--and I've played every version of Street Fighter ( that doesn't involve crossing over with SNK) since 1992.

All my opinions, of course. I'm sure some people love the game.

I have always liked how Darkstalkers looked, but I have never had the oportunity to play it. I think the problem of that IP is, plain and simply, Capcom. And not because they treat that particular franchise worse than others of theirs. The fighting genre is not as big as it used to be, and those games are more demanding now than ever before, so companies usually focus on one fighting game (Microsoft with KI, WB with Mortal Kombat, Nintendo with Smash, NamcoBandai with Tekken...). There are exceptions like Pokken or the CapcomVS series, but most of them focus on just one. And Capcom has a lot of fighting series, including the most popular fighting IP. So if they have to focus all of their attention on Street Fighter, while attending the demands of games as popular as Capcom VS Marvel, why would they risk making another game from a franchise that was never that popular to begin with?

I think that the best solution for that series would be an exclusivity deal. I know it sounds bad, but Capcom won't invest on that franchise unless they know they will be risk-free.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I don't own a Vita and I don't have my PSP anymore :(

Emulators will have to do.

meh.. i think Capcom should make another Fighting Jam/Evolution... would cover a lot of more fans of these old fighting games series..

We don't speak about that game. -.-

Anyways, for me Capcom vs SNK 3 is a must. CVS2 is still the best fighting game ever among many fighting game fans. The different groove styles and the huge roster made it a singular experience in depth and variety.

I am not opposed to a Darkstalkers 4, but i'm pretty sure it won't present brilliant sales.

Yes! I need more Morrigan and Lilith!

...I would like to see a new Rival Schools though.

Really? first you say that darkstalkers is too nieche for capcom dueto low sales in your previous argument. Then you go ahead saying that you would only emulate (pirate) it, if you would like to play it

I don't own any console that has a legitimate copy of any Darkstalkers. If they had released one on the Wii or the 3DS, I would have bought it.
