My first 1080p tv was last summer. It's definitely better than 720p but I'm glad I waited.

Not only that, but Sony TVs are going to have both the better upscaling and better noise algorithms, meaning playing 1080p content on it will look far and away superior to its Samsung equivalent. As far as 4K content is concerned, the Samsung's are going to have significantly worse light bleed than Sony will. And finally, the Sony 4Ks are running Android TV, which is much more open-ended and supported than the SmartHub.
Which TV should you pick? Well, you can make a bad decision and buy a Samsung (or worse, an LG). Or you can get a Sony. |
I think it depends on what you want out of the TV. Based on reviews & specs, you can't really go wrong with Samsung, Sony, LG, or Panasonic. They all have advantages & disadvantages.
For example, I'm currently looking at an LG (not 100% on it yet) because it has an IPS panel and the way my living room is arranged, I'd benefit from the wider viewing angles. To put it another way, the Sony TV might be A quality when sitting directly in front of it but degrade to C quality for the other people sitting on the sides. The LG will only be B quality but stay that same B quality for everyone, no matter the seat.
So, while the Sony TV might be better in some ways, it will depend on what you're looking for
