You say that but Vita is already capable of a 720p output. So seems pretty similar to me.

Upressing sub-544p games to 720p on the Vita TV isn't being "capable of 720p." It's not similar in the slightest.

A game can be 720 native on Vita. Without upressing. Because most games don't is irrelevant. Most high profile 360 games were sub 720.

...No it can't. The Vita doesn't have a 720p screen. It's impossible.

I don't see a successor to the Vita on the horizon, so I guess Sony will support the Vita as long as they possibly can. They might even try to hold on to their tradition of supporting platforms for at least 10 years - which would mean support until 2022. Seems crazy right now, but I can actually see that happening. Minecraft alone will keep the system afloat somewhat. It's still the number one choice for Minecraft on the go, because the versions for smartphones suck ass. =D

Anyway, definitely not before 2018, not even in the US.

I agree with this sentiment generally, though I definitely don't think it will last 10 years. 8 years max. 6 years minimum, though, for the same reasons you say.

Although the screen wasnt 720. It's max output was always that.

Don't forget it was originally expected to have HDMI output built into it.

It doesn't, though. No game has been made to run at native 720p, and any that tried and somehow streamed to a TV or something would look absolutely awful because the only reason the best looking Vita games can even look comparable to PS360 games is because their resolution doesn't need to surpass 544p, meaning more resources can go to polygon count and texture quality.

Whenever it slows in Japan. That region is still selling them at a decent rate.

As a sony platform with a growing strength in Japan, I feel it'll last a couple years, at least 5 and perhaps up to 8 or 10 years. Elsewhere, it will probably continue doing well enough, at least in Europe. Not sure if anything can help it in the US.

It's almost dead in the US. Europe will keep buying it for a few years as long as the strong Japanese support continues.

Japan at a minimum 2018 but I can honestly see it going even longer. They already have great Japanese support but if the NX handheld is similar in power the vita might actually start getting more games.

Either way the answer is, when the Japanese stop buying it which will be a long time.

This year in the west. Next year in Japan
Maybe early 2017 in the west and early 2018 in japan

Thread moved to Sony Discussion.

OP: I think it will be discontinued only in 2019.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
