Forums - Sony - crysis coming to ps3

High performance (games developed as) exclusives on the PC/360/PS3 seem to be very hard to port to each other, and Crysis isn't all that spectacular in the end. I don't think it'll get ported.

Why do we have this conversation every two months???

Faster ram is not equal to large amounts of ram, the RSX is not equal to a 7800 GTX or GT (128 bit bus vs 256 bit bus from the PC models), but oh well, there is nothing we can do...

THe funny thing is if 5 years ago God of War 2 came out on the PC, people would be saying "There is no way in hell GoW2 could ever be done on the PS2, with only 32 Meg of memory, and the EE? It's impossible"

Same story, different generation. I tire of hearing about what can't be done. My guess is by the end if the PS3's life (2012-2014), games on the PS3 will make Crysis look like a joke.

The funny thing is how you compare a "fixed camera" game vs a FPS (no fixed camera) and the standar resolution of almost any pc game at that time (1024 * 768) vs the 480 resolution of GoW2...

Let me put it for you in this way...

Quake 3 Arena (1999)

Unreal T. (1999)

Halo (2001) Xbox

Doom 3 (2004)

Half life 2 (2004)

HL2. River

Halo 2 (2004)

Can you see the trend, the xbox couldn't keep with the resolution and details of the pc games (Even with ports of this two games, HL and Doom 3, the ports lack of the same quality shadder effects, had lower poly count and low res textures)... the same goes for the PS3 and the 360, right now they have troubles just to keep up with the PC games at decent resolution (Call of duty 4)... we are goping to see more "great graphics" games, but most of them are going to sacrifice huge and detailed enviroments (Like Crysis) in order to keep a decent framerate and a hd resolution (Like 720 or maybe 1080)... like Killzone 2, great graphics, but is going to run a 720 @ 30 fps... and killzone falls behind Crysis...

Why do you think that, so far there is no pic or video of the CryEngine 2 running in a console, why do they keep it close?? (Like Sony and Capcom with the PS2 port of RE4 before the release date)....

Except almost all memory in any middle-andabove-end video card, of course.

Sure, consoles are quite different on certain aspects to PCs, but the most limiting factor on how would Crysis perform on consoles, this is memory bandwidth and size of it, is the easiest thing to compare between PCs and consoles.

Don't forget that Crysis not only asks for 2GB of system memory, it asks for at least 256MB of dedicated video memory. AT LEAST. Not to mention the thing I mentioned about speed. A GeForce 8800GTX has a bandwidth of over 80GB/s. That's almost 400% the bandwidth of the memories of 360/PS3, be them video or main. And even in that case it struggles.

And no, I'm not saying that it couldn't be done on consoles.

The PS3's 256MB of ram runs at 3.2GHz please show me a stick of ram I can use in my computer that runs at that speed.... I would love it!

Yeah, 3.2Ghz at 8 bit bandwidth, that puts it at around 20GB/s again.

And sure, with DDR2 you can only get around 16GB/s bandwidth on PC for system RAM, but 5GB/s is a much lesser difference compared to a 100GB/s difference, comparing any RAM on console to video RAM on PC.

I would like to add that he is wrong about it being the fastest in clock speed too. The fastest ram is GDDR5 clocked at 6GHZ.

Like I said, hit me up with a link so I can buy it for my PC, and by the way, I'm not talking about Video card ram, I'm talking about system ram. I have to admit, I'm really getting sick of your lack of knowledge, there's a difference between knowing something and catching a glimpse of it on the web, if you don't know for sure, then keep your mouth shut.

4* faster than GDDR3.

PS3 GDDR3 - 256MB GDDR3 VRAM @700MHz
8800gt GDDR - 512MB GDDR3 @900mhz-1000mhz

Ok, this memory kit provides your PC with 2GB of DDR3 system RAM at 25.6GB/s... exactly the same bandwidth of the PS3's XDR RAM ^_^

This has got too much out of topic I think.

It's a mediocre game in an oversaturated genre. There's no reason for it to come to PS3 at all. Frankly, there are already several significantly better FPS games on the PS3 and it's not even known as the FPS-lover's console.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

If crysis couldnt be reasonably run on the ps3 then I don't know if crytek will be able to sell their engine!

 Agree w/ all of that!
