?

Your post was so out of touch with reality that it didn't deserve a response.

Out of touch how?  You questioned why there was no mention of handhelds in this articles, I asked why would it matter, you responded that "A more accurate picture of the Japanese gaming market. It's pretty much necessary, because the article's headline is "Why Japan no longer matters to PlayStation".

Im saying that there are articles out there that give an idea of the japanese gaming market, if you were to take that data with this article, you can get an idea as to why the arthor of this article wrote that Japan doesn't matter to Sony.

People, the 3DS has sold about 20m units in five years which puts it ahead of every PlayStation system in history over a five year span. In the same timeframe, the 3DS had 20 games which sold 1m+ copies, tying it with the PlayStation 2's lifetime total.

Train wreck claimed that mobile is killing everything in Japan, but a short and simple fact check makes it clear that such a claim is completely false.

Right! And from VGChartz. The 3DS has Beaten the PSP in Japan! And that is when Smartphone gaming didn't exist/ became big.

PS2 sold 22+ million in Japan.

Also you can't compare a home console with a handheld because othewise you should also compare a 3DS with an Iphone and it would get outsold by 1000:1

But smartphones doesn't have its own Gen.

And shouldn't we also count PC Gaming too? From your POV.

Smartphone gaming wasn't a thing back then but PSP was under fierce competition. DS, Wii and even PS3 because developers weren't sure if they should hunt the worldwide HD market with PS3 or play it safe with PSP/DS in Japan.

Smartphones is basically a Gen.

But if you want to add PC too, sure why not.

But my point was that it's not fair to compare home consoles with handhelds.

Yes that's my point. the 3DS was still mangaed to beat the PSP even with the Smartphone gaming craze.

I know that the PS2 sold 22m, but it didn't do so in five years. Like I said in the post you quoted, the 3DS is tracking ahead of every PlayStation.

Does it matter if it didn't do it in five years? PS2 has the biggest launch in history in Japan but i am not making a fuss about it. It also cracked the 5 million fastest than 3DS. So? Nintendo consoles do good in the first years but after they hit the bottom of the barrel more earlier than it's competitors. Wii was practically dead after 3-4 years and PS3 was going strong for 8 years. PSP the same. While DS was dead, there were some weeks it was outselling even 3DS.

All i have to say to this article is.....

LOL

Another Japan expert who doesn't have the slightest clue of what he is talking about. He is comparing a country with 50+ markets.

If 2+ million is low, with his logic Sony should stop selling PS4 in England too.

Also he should do a better research and see that PS4 is ahead of PS3 in Japan. But this is probably too hard for him.

He is  Clueless, the Japanese's  home console market is woth more than 3.3 Billions of US$, the Korean, and the Germany video game market, with all the markets, Mobile, Pc, Console, are the 2 closest markets to Japan, in Video Game, and the Whole market of those countries are 3.6, and 4 Billions of US$,  Japan, is one of Sony's most profitable market, Playstation 4, is avaliable on 137 Countries i think, and sold 12 Millions on USA, and 2+ Millions on Japan, it launched much later on Japan, than other countries, and still sold Playstation 4, like the other European countries, or even more, and have a Health competitor that is the Wii U, that sold more than 3 Millions.

What we have on United Kingdom ? (that is more than 1 country), 5 Millions or + with PS4, XBOX ONE, Wii U, and on Japan (1 country), with PS4+ Xbox One, and Wii U, also have 5+ Millions of consoles sold.
