Also, not that I am not already used to it, but the omission of handhelds in the context of such a writeup is still disturbing. It's as if somebody forced a complete blackout on the media.

I really want to see Nintendo going on full force with the NX on Japan. They have to chance to do great sales on the homeconsole market now that the competition is nothing difficult to beat.

Luckily Nintendo is killing off the Wii U so quickly.

A more accurate picture of the Japanese gaming market. It's pretty much necessary, because the article's headline is "Why Japan no longer matters to PlayStation".

Including handhelds will be redundant to the point in the article of why Japan doesn't matter to PlayStation.

As for handhelds Sony has 

Their CMOS sensors and cameras are going into quite a number of smartphones made by many other compsnies and & times more than just one of those companies smart phones.

 

Now Sony purchased its own LTE chipset manufacturer.

PSVita's support is still going on by many Japanese development studios and Japanese software publishers. Opening up more of their games to be ported to the west is on the cards no doubt.

As a famously outspoken CEO once pointed out..

Developers.. Developers.... Developers.. Developers. Developers.. ..Developers..

Bring those Japanese console games to a market in the west. If consoles sales are shrinking in Japan.

 

Already Sony is bringing PlayStation network features & software to smart phones. Which is why gathering Japan studios & Publishers on board to port the smartphone games & Apps to console's may in fact be a far more lucrative investment.

I thought the accurate picture was that mobile is killing everything over there and Japan spends more on mobile per user than every other country (at least to me).  There are numerous reports out there that give a more accurate picture of the japanese console and handheld market, you can easily incorporate that data with this article to get an even more accurate picture.

Playstation is dominating home consoles in Japan.

PS4 is ahead of PS3.

It is beating competition (WiiU) like it's playing in super easy mode.

It's getting all the 3rd party support along with VITA. Even more than 3DS.

Playstation in 2015 sold almost 10m software retail only!  It's not as bad as the doomsayers make it out to be.  

 

Going with the above logic you quoted,  there's only 1 console manufacturer left WW,  and it happens to be Japanese so I guess RolStoppable is right haha!
