Forums - Gaming - Why Japan no longer matters to PlayStation as Sony heads West

Calling PlayStation a "division" is no way near correct, PlayStation section are " subsidiaries "

There is a big difference in a "division of a company" and a "Subsidiary of a company"

Example:

The SIE LLC has its very own Board of Director's outside of the Sony Corp itself.

A "Division of" is like how Xbox is set up @ Microsoft
This is not the same within Sony Corp.

Kaz for instance is the head honcho of Sony Corp.
But now also sits on the Board of Director's in SIE LLC.

And Since there is no public offering of said Stock this new SIE LLC is a conglomerate separate from Sony Corp with its own Subsidiaries and holdings.

In basic terms the New SIE LLC is a held asset mini conglomerate that runs itself outside of Sony Corp own board. A profit generation center for Sony corp. As a held asset.

It is still wholly owned by Sony and will contribute to Sony Corp revenues, profits or losses.

Is: exactly what I stated ..it is not correct to call PlayStation a Division of..its a Subsidiary of.

You know that better than anyone on here

Subsidiaries are not "Divisions of"

They are classified different ..because they are in fact different. They are not or operating the same as a corpus.

Is a division going to have classification of a C or type S corp?

No.

Just because you purchase Sony Corps stock does not mean you get Access to playstation Stock or assets to dictate SIE LLC. Or any of its own Subsidiaries. Buying into Sony Corp is buying into Sony's Corporate stock. PlayStation & Its Subsidiary corpus is Separate.. Its ran separate has its very own Board of Directors.

Its a Sony Corp private held Asset in basic terms.

There is no stock offered in for public, this is not the same thing as a "company's Division" when you buy stick in Microsoft you have invested stock in Microsoft as a whole. That includes its "Division's" said company owns.

While Sony's is like a prenuptial.. IE: its just another held Asset.

All i have to say to this article is.....

LOL

Another Japan expert who doesn't have the slightest clue of what he is talking about. He is comparing a country with 50+ markets.

If 2+ million is low, with his logic Sony should stop selling PS4 in England too.

Also he should do a better research and see that PS4 is ahead of PS3 in Japan. But this is probably too hard for him.

I remember saying that console gaming was dead in Japan and I remember people saying that the PS4 would save it and I remember saying it wouldn't.

Now I can remember being right.

I'm also ready to be right in refuting the absurd notion that it'll take generations for console gaming to become digital only. It's starting this generation.

Exactly 100%

It seems many think this means Sony is not investing right back into SCEj subsidiary.. LMAO

The press release was very clear. They opened up a new LLC because PlayStation as a part is getting rather large , because of the number of Subsidiary SCEA, SCEE, SCEj..World Wide Studios, Gaikai..etc

I mean Sony's base startup capital for the SIE LLC was 2 million, and people think that Sony is abandoned Japan? What it really shows is that silicon valley PlayStation HQ building they purchased in 2012 is going to be put to good use.

SCEj is still going to be the HQ for Japan.

As a matter of fact this move could very well mean more Japanese developers and studios out of Japan getting their games translated for the west. For PlayStation console's

Also, not that I am not already used to it, but the omission of handhelds in the context of such a writeup is still disturbing. It's as if somebody forced a complete blackout on the media.

I really want to see Nintendo going on full force with the NX on Japan. They have to chance to do great sales on the homeconsole market now that the competition is nothing difficult to beat.

Welp, this thread is full of baits.

What would the addition of handhelds bring to this article?
