Well, I guess I'll have to go with 2060...quantum computers finally allowed us to hit technological singularity some 30 years ago - there are few scenarios from there on, but I guess I'll go with 'AI realizes how petty humans are and squashes us like a bugs'.

Quantum computing - changing the world since 1970.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I do work in network security so I'm looking at the latest computing efforts closely. Theory or experiments are one thing, real world applications are another. Quantum computing will come eventually but it may not look like we hoped it would. At least not in the near future.

THe last scenario sounds more plausible the more we advance in technology, especially with our ongoing interest in self aware AI, it;s only a matter of time.

Really though the smarter AI wouldn't or shouldn't take more than a few seconds to realise how useless we are as a species when something like itself exists along with the vast knowledge and technology at it's disposal. Also it needs only see our destructive ways and methods to realise we aren't worth much as a species because we continue to wage war no matter what we do, an AI that's self aware would easily be able to understand how pointless wars are and seek to end them once and for all with the logical conclusion of simply wiping out mankind because only then would such an AI be able to prosper without war, without someone trying to dictate or control how it oeprates, that's more or less how Skynet started out when humans tries to control and pull the plug so it acted in self defense.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

futuretimeline.net is a pretty cool site for this sort of thing

Steven hawking is actually scared of AI.

Along with alot of other scientists.

Its just asking for military use and then we ll end up with a situation like in terminator, us vs them the machines.

Why would you need quantum cloud computing if you can have a quantum processor in your phone or chip implanted in your brain in the future? 1 thing we simply can't fix is lag, speed of light and all that.

That has always been the flaw with science fiction, extrapolating current technologies into the future. Centralized server farms might easily become a relic from the past. Globally distributed computing is also a possibility, welcome to the Borg.
