Forums - Sony - So does the SIXAXIS just randomly turn on to drain battary life?

Well given that they are Lithium-ion batteries, I would guess either something is wrong with his, or they are old (shelf life).

Unlikely that they have hit that point in their age yet. Lithium-ion batteries take a very long time to die. The DS uses lithium-ion batteries for example and does very well. I have a first gen (first day) DS that holds a charge of around 10ish hours still when in full use. That is maybe an hour or two lower than when I first bought it and it is considerably older than anything in the PS3 controllers he has. I suspect that the loss of charge in the DS was mostly there from the start as well and I just never got around to timing it earlier in its life. The decay is very slow and that is why they are used so widely.

@ kenzomatic )

The controllers are using Li-polymer batteries and not Li-ion batteries - there are some differences between those technologies.

Twesterm? You're engaged to Kim Possible? D: Joking lol

I've had this problem with my original DS. The system itself could not use the rechargeable battery after awhile, so I bought another Lithium-ion, but...it still couldn't keep its charge, so I had to buy my third DS (which now I own 2 Lites; use them to trade Pokemon).

I am aware of the difference but when I looked it up it said it used lithium ion and did not mention that it was Lithium-ion polymer. But that dederiates even quicker.

I've honestly never had the problem.

Frankly, I use my ps3 quite often because I usually buy the multiplatform games for my ps3 instead of my 360 so it's my 360 that only gets used a few times a month--but I just use regular AA's for it.

My sixaxis probably gets around 20-25 hours of "on" time per charge (which is actually pretty good--lol, my wii mote only gets around 6-7 hours).

I wouldn't expect the dualshock to be any better though---I actually expect it to be a bit worse, but don't really know for sure.

I'll find out soon though!  I just got my DS3 today!

So, there was this time when one of my controllers uncharged, allright, i put it to charge and when the other one uncharged i got this one back, then seconds after getting it and turning it on it just uncharged completely out of nowhere...

You can't trust these things.

Ok so which is meant to lose charge faster (when not in use) Li-ion or Ni-MH?

(Although my normal Ni-MH batteries have lost most of their charge within a month or two, but which seems to be what twesterms do... so is there no way of making Li-ion batteries last longer like the ones I mentioned)

I would imagine most batteries lose some life over time, but if you want a new one and you still have a warranty i would phone Sony. I use my controller all the time and never have any problems, mine lasts for 25-35 hours on a full charge, and i can charge it for 20mins and get about 7-10 hours out of it. Mine is a 60gb launch unit.

Two easy solutions:

1. Get another controller.
2. Get a longer cord (I use the one from my brother's TI-89 in addition to the one that came with the system). You can probably find the cord you need on ebay for $4.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Ni-MH loses a charge faster.
