Forums - Gaming - Is Xenoblade Chronicles X Underrated?

I've noticed that a lot of GOTY lists have been leaving "Xenoblade X" out in the cold. Do you think this is the result of its late release date, or just that the game isn't getting any respect?

I, for one, have been completely captured by it. The game is massive, funny, and highly addictive. It's certainly in the mix for my personal GOTY - what about the rest of you? Do you think it deserves more accolades than it has received?

No.

Nope.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I wouldn't say underrated, since it has its obvious flaws. As I said, the enjoyment of the game is based on how you are capable of overlook those flaws. Reviewers had to take these flaws into account, so I get why the game might not get any awards. Personally, I think it's totally worth the effort and it deserved more appreciation. I think it's a better game than the original, and one of the best JRPGs ever made. I can overlook the game's flaws because the rest of it is just wonderful.

I definitely recognize its shortcomings, but what game released this year doesn't have its share of issues?

Maybe it's the result of lowered expectations (from the lukewarm Japanese reception), but I've been floored by how much fun I've had with XCX.

Yeah, that's fair. I'm having a blast too, I haven't had so much fun with a game since a long time. I think that the main problem is that the game could be frustrating. There are some questionable and easily fixable things in the game. For example, fetch quests (they could give an area instead an entire continent), the font size, the messy way to recruit NPCs to your party... But with all of that said, I think it's an outstanding game, because the rest of it is just wonderful. And there's so many things to do, even after I finished the game. I'm doing affinity missions and normal missions, taking down Tyrants, building myself a nice armor, trying the online multiplayer... To be honest, maybe it's kind of silly to just keep pointing the bad things when there are so, so many good things in XCX.

It's not underrated, it's already rated high lol. GOTY doesn't mean shit these days anyways.

In a year containing Fallout 4, the Witcher 3, Bloodborne, and Metal Gear Solid V, you can't really expect Xenoblade X to really compete for game of the year.

It's an excellent game, but there are also other masterpieces out there.

The game is already highly rated and recieved way more attention for an rpg (a wii u exclusive nonetheless) despite it's many shortcomings. So no, it's not underrated.

The funny thing is, those games you listed all made me yawn. The Witcher 3 was somewhere in the middle, Bloodborne was seriously just a grindfest all over again with FROM Software's same ol' formula, MGS5 wasn't that great, and Fallout 4 is the lawlz, let's just be real here, as far as good games go, 2015 was a fucking joke overall.
