Forums - Sony - Is The Last of Us a timeless classic?

OP: "is the last of us a timeless classic?"

some gamer on this site: "No, I don't like that gae so no lol also bad gameplay because we knw a game can oly be a tieless classic wth great gaeplay like ff7 or ff7 or something like ff7 that had gamelay like it ws never seen before"

Me: the question isn't how you liked the game, but if it's seen as a timeless classic in 10 or more years from now on and looking at the data we have sales, metacritic, awards, heck even on vgchartz we have every 2-3 month a thread about the last of us with a discussion about hundreds of replys mostly with how awesome that game is, so I say hell yes.

For me, it is.

Final boss? Why would it need a final boss? It's not a game based on having bosses, you are fighting a disease and humans, not monsters and demons.
No climax and it just ended? Holy shit, I couldn't think of a game with a higher climax, that last section on the fireflies headquarters was as climatic as it could get, I got myself actually wanting to rush over those guys (and I always choose to go the most stealth way possible) to save Ellie, and when you get her you get to run carrying her to get out of there with everybody chasing you, I didn't even want to see if there was any collectible (boy if you know me you know I always looks everywhere before doing anything) because I was fearing for her life and just wanted to get the hell out of there. It ended greatly.
It had plenty other climax points all over it, plenty.

I can barely put in words how that game messed up with me.

And no, it's not an "american" thing, even though I'm south american, I absolutely love japanese games, way more than western ones, and that didn't changed a bit of how masterful that game was to me.

If anything I actually think that 95 score it have on metacritic is an understatement of how damn good The Last of Us is.

Now I like you even more than before. Have you seen this?

I love the game, but don't see it as timeless. Not actually sure why

But when I tell you about how important Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is, and point out that it has a 96 in metacritic, you are quick to say how negligible and wrong the critics are.

On a side note, I agree about the game not needing bosses, even though it does features one and he struck me as a particular memorable boss.

Nope! It's not even that great of a game. It had glaring pace issues in the story, it didnt even bother with a final boss battle. It was clearly incomplete and hastily stitched together. There was no climax to the game and it just ended. I didnt think it was anything special. There must be something "american" about it that i can't see, but it is clearly overhyped.

Agreed, much bigger climax than any other game with an end boss.
I love it how it leaves it open ended or rather how it leaves some things unsaid.

I rarely buy DLC, yet Left behind was a given and did not disappoint.

I think gaming will continue to be more and more diverse making consensus of what is desirable in the medium harder to achieve.

I doubt a game will be made again that 90%+ agree is "perfect" in the way Ocarina of Time was received back in 1998 and several years after.

The last of us has solid gameplay, and the greatest story telling of any game, ever. I think, as of now, it's a definite classic.

Not at all. It has a terrible way of telling its story and has just average unimaginative gameplay. I don't see where's the timeless classic...
