Forums - Sony - Sony: “We’re Always Open” to Acquire New Studios, There’s “Always an Appetite”

Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios includes many developers, but apparently the company is still open to the idea of acquiring new studios for its line-up, as mentioned by Worldwide Studios North American boss Scott Rohde during an interview with Kinda Funny Games.

“I think we’re kinda in a sweet spot, but we’re always open to it. Remember, we worked with Sucker Punch for a decade before we acquired them. So there are those relationships that may even start with a smaller game and teams grow, and this is on a worldwide basis.

There’s always an appetite. If the relationship works and if both sides are loving the relationship and “wow, you did something great and we wanna see you grow to the next level” absolutely, we’re always looking at that.”

Rohde also explained that there’s no rule anywhere that establishes that the company needs to have only a set number of studios.

It’ll be interesting to see if Sony will increase the number of developers within the Worldwide Studios in the near future. They have a lot coming next year, but the more, the better.

Ok.

I'm going to steal someone elses idea, Housemarque. It's just silly that Sony hasn't bought them yet. There is certainly room in SWS for a team that can just pound out really high quality arcade style games.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Read at Dawn was looking like it before The Order backslash.
Quantic Dream would be the best possibility now.

Kojima Productions and Miyazaki Team would be the best hopes

If SONY buys another developer it should a small developer like Falcom. The Miyaki team is FS, there is no reason to buy a mid range developer for one IP when they can just have them make one they will own as is the case with BB.

KP was reabsorbed with western studio closed. Kojima doesn't need to be "owned" but have him develop an exclusive IP is the way to go.

I have an idea, Sony could buy Respawn Entertainment!

NOO! They have too many studios already, rather than owning more studios. Why not distributing independent studios to make their games ? We need Sly Cooper 5 and JAK 4, and we need it FAST!

Yes, get some Japanese studio's you need more of them.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

They should buy Japanese game studios. I'm really surprised how they haven't bought any Japanese game studios even though they're located in Japan. Japanese game studios are also cheaper to buy. I would have said From Software but they've already been bought. Level 5 is a great developer and another one they should have bought a long time ago.

"There is only one race, the pathetic begging race"

I'd say Psyonix because they're great and probably still cheap but I do want to have future titles release on PC.
So I'm hoping they won't acquire any more studios if that means the games will be banned from PC.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I'd rather they focus on their own and leave the independent/multiplat studios alone as they are tbh, same with MS.
