Why do many regard Walmart as evil but they don't say the same thing about Costco, as both are big box stores?

Because Wal-mart is way more successful.
It does what almost any other buisness would do in it's situation. That's what happens when you build companies to be ammoral.

It seems as the bigger the company, the more evil it is...I don't agree with this though, I like Walmart..
Costco hasn't been sued for employee abuse too often (see: overtime), they don't put people out of a job by *forcing* companies to maintain prices that are lower break even (see: rubbermaid), and I've never heard of them shuttign stores down because the workers unionized (see: union).
Wal-Mart is considered evil because they only work in the interest of putting money into the pockets of Sam Walton's kids, and they don't care how many lives they destroy to do it.

You do not have the right to never be offended.
It's not because they are the biggest and most successful, it's because of the tactics they have used to get where they are. When a company does something illegal to make more money (forced overtime) or refuses to deal with people when the other people make ANY sort of demands, they are not going to be seen in a good light.
There are many businesses on top of their respective industries not seen as evil at all, and they do that by treating their partners, employees, and customers with respect.

To add to Chchiri's post, Wal-Mart also openly encourages their employees to seek social services to accompany their income.
If you don't have huge problems with that, I don't know what to say. They're essentially forcing the government to subsidize their company through low wages.

Good call, I had forgotten about that.
Better yet, here's something that shows how much we're paying for Wal-Mart's practices in our taxes:

So for me, more than $5 a year, before we count Medicaid or any other specialty service of the sort. Not too much, but I'd bet those people could just get paid more in the first place.

It seems to me the bigger the company the more people favor the 'underdog' until that company becomes to big and the next underdog wins over consumers.

Funny you should say that with a SN like "NintendoMan," all things considered...
