Sony only had bloodborne last year a bunch of indies and ps3 remakes. Xbox had forza halo 5 and Tomb raider.and some remakes plus rare replay.Sony has only uncharted 4 scheduled for next year and some remakes. Xbox has Recore gears 4 halo wars 2 forza horizon 3 Crackdown killer instinct season 3 sea of thieves fable legends and Quantom Break plus some unannounced games. Ohh sony may have vr which is a joke. I'm hoping sony get their junk together because I haven't had a reason to play my ps4 since bloodborne. I don't want indies or vr I want games.

This is why I listen to Crapgamer. You can spot his subs a mile off.

The truth simply hurts.

Well what do you think they'll do?, I mean what else could they do that doesn't involve doing something that would then be trounced by something Sony could do?.

Nothing realistically.

If MS wanted to prove that they were unwilling to lose marketshare, they would release a $199 XBOX Arcade  (no Blueray drive) with an announcment of a dozen short-term and long-term first party exclusives. It would massively lower the price of entry and prove that they are here to stay - with many COMPLETELY EXCLUSIVE games to look forward to.

If you had that answer in mind then asking him was pretty redundant because you were just going to meet with another answer to take down whatever possible "what they could do" answer. Honestly I just wish people who think MS is gonna get obliterated or dominated would come out and say their inner most desires and let it be done, for the longest time on here that's what more or less gets said by the odd few people on here anyway. (Of course that would involve judgement being thrown down upon thee and no one wants that).

I will be fully honest with you - I wish XBOX - in its current form, would just die.  It almost NEVER has brought real competition to Sony, and they have an abnormal amount of anti-consumer policies that are holding back this industry.  In fact I think MS has held back both PC and console gamign for a long time.

All of those people saying "Pray that MS lives because otherwise Sony would have no competition" - I would argue they have had almost no competition for a very long time.  Pray that someone with real vision and passion enters the fray.

Phil Spencer is a step in the right direction, but they need to do so much more.  Bill gates said himself that XBOX was:

1) A way to get windows into the living room

2) To stop Sony from taking all of the marketshare

That's not enough to succeed long-term in any meaningful way.  They need to change completely how they think about this market.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

The thign is with MS they have turned things around since their initial reveal, those policies are basically gone for the most part and aren't holding down the entire gaming industry with a supereme cold iron fist with commanding force, if anything they backfired and ended up doing nothing for them which was why they decided to scrap said policies, trouble was by the time they did that they had already lost considerable marketshare.

MS hasn't done much for PC gaming in a long time, this gen they didn't really hold back PC gaming in such a way that got all us PC gamers up in arms with foam at the mouths and pitchforks in hand, in fact MS decided that now was a good time for them to come crawling back after the years of on and off promises, only this time they think they have bargening power and are giving PC gamers delayed ports locked to Windows 10, that isn't really holding PC gamers back per say but it's annoying as fuck to see them having a set of balls to deny their 7 and 8 userbases entirely in the hopes we'll all suddenly flock to 10 without question.

I don't pray for them to remain as much since I'd prefer them returning to their original roots, however I feel that they should also remain in the ring because as things are Nintendo hasn't really been the king with the pwoer for a very long time, the Wii sold insane numbers but outside of those numebrs it wasn't a power to be reckoned with in terms of actual horsepower, 3rd parties and a hardcore following, the system had a massive load of casual folk who fueled them that gen and have long since gone from their side which for a while now has proven that all they have are loyal followers who aren't making up for lost time. I don't see them suddenly becoming 80's Arnie (in his prime) and smacking down the other two while taking names which leaves me to wondering who else could step in and absolutely throw down like no corp has done before. I can't see Samsung doing it nor Sega or any other publisher out there and even then it's going to have to be some form of Western competition since we do need an actual Western player in all of this, even then I just don't see a new player entering such a late game and that means Sony becoming Illuminati tin foil hats "one ruler" which is clearly what many gamers don't want, especially me.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

At first I agreed with the op but looking closer, both consoles appear to have solid lineups. I'm going to have a blast!

Isn't that the real issue? - who could enter the market in aa meaningful way?

Personally I have no clue.  I completely agree that Samsung isn't right, and from my perspective google and apple aren't right either.  I guess at this point it would have to be an outsider who cares just like Playstation was when it was birthed.  Someone we wouldn't expect, who was getting in the game because they knew they would do the best (Not because they just wanted to leach off marketshare).

To your other points:

1) The only reason MS is opening up slightly to PC gaming is because they are losing 2/3rds of their console marketshare, and with Steam OS and OSX gaining gaming prowess they are worried.  If they cared (IMO), they would double or tripple down on PC gaming.

2) Yeah ik Nintendo has sucked since the NES too.  But if Nintendo gets some really good leadership they could turn things around imo - but i would't put any money on them doing so.  (I do hope they figure things out though).

1) I already pointed out their crawling back to PC was due to them losing sides =P, I do feel that they won't focus much on PC gaming this gen though, I think they see it as a safety net to make it look like they are once again in it to win it (even though GAF has recorded their many promises and attempts, most of which have hardly been fulfilled or ignored). If they truly care they won't try forcing their OS and locking everything to it like some form of mega DRM (seriously locking super late X1 ports at probably full price to windows 10 and their store only is pretty assholish, at least Sony pubbed Helldivers to Steam).

2)Ideally I do want Ninty to turn things around, though I do want them to drop the gimmicks and go back to making games with some decent hw and maybe some more titles geared towards the hardcore crowd (well people like me who aren't entirely into cute/colourful titles or at elast ones that don't involve their mascots).

Aren't most of the PS4's heavy hitters in 2016 also coming to PC? Street Fighter is. No Man's Sky is. Nier has a chance. I'm drawing a blank when it comes to other PS4 exclusives that are launching next year. FF7 *might* drop next year, but that's not an exclusive. Keep in mind MS has a Remedy and Platinum game launching next year. Those two will be very high scoring games, as guaranteed as Uncharted 4 being good. It's stupid to sleep on any of the Big 3.

1) Yeah MS as a company in general needs to grow up and modernize.  Google/Amazon doesn't just succeed because they have the best product, they succeed because they often put their customers first.   MS is starting to figure this out, but they have a long ways to go.

2) Yeah we can both agree that Ninty needs to grow up.  I know I will piss off Nintendo Fanboys when I say that, but come on!   Sure Playstation has LBP and a couple other family games, but even those appeal to everyone - and then they have games for every other demographic.  Nintendo needs to figure this out!
