I will be fully honest with you - I wish XBOX - in its current form, would just die. It almost NEVER has brought real competition to Sony, and they have an abnormal amount of anti-consumer policies that are holding back this industry. In fact I think MS has held back both PC and console gamign for a long time.
All of those people saying "Pray that MS lives because otherwise Sony would have no competition" - I would argue they have had almost no competition for a very long time. Pray that someone with real vision and passion enters the fray.
Phil Spencer is a step in the right direction, but they need to do so much more. Bill gates said himself that XBOX was:
1) A way to get windows into the living room
2) To stop Sony from taking all of the marketshare
That's not enough to succeed long-term in any meaningful way. They need to change completely how they think about this market.

The thign is with MS they have turned things around since their initial reveal, those policies are basically gone for the most part and aren't holding down the entire gaming industry with a supereme cold iron fist with commanding force, if anything they backfired and ended up doing nothing for them which was why they decided to scrap said policies, trouble was by the time they did that they had already lost considerable marketshare.
MS hasn't done much for PC gaming in a long time, this gen they didn't really hold back PC gaming in such a way that got all us PC gamers up in arms with foam at the mouths and pitchforks in hand, in fact MS decided that now was a good time for them to come crawling back after the years of on and off promises, only this time they think they have bargening power and are giving PC gamers delayed ports locked to Windows 10, that isn't really holding PC gamers back per say but it's annoying as fuck to see them having a set of balls to deny their 7 and 8 userbases entirely in the hopes we'll all suddenly flock to 10 without question.
I don't pray for them to remain as much since I'd prefer them returning to their original roots, however I feel that they should also remain in the ring because as things are Nintendo hasn't really been the king with the pwoer for a very long time, the Wii sold insane numbers but outside of those numebrs it wasn't a power to be reckoned with in terms of actual horsepower, 3rd parties and a hardcore following, the system had a massive load of casual folk who fueled them that gen and have long since gone from their side which for a while now has proven that all they have are loyal followers who aren't making up for lost time. I don't see them suddenly becoming 80's Arnie (in his prime) and smacking down the other two while taking names which leaves me to wondering who else could step in and absolutely throw down like no corp has done before. I can't see Samsung doing it nor Sega or any other publisher out there and even then it's going to have to be some form of Western competition since we do need an actual Western player in all of this, even then I just don't see a new player entering such a late game and that means Sony becoming Illuminati tin foil hats "one ruler" which is clearly what many gamers don't want, especially me.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
