Development on Final Fantasy XV has finished pre-beta, programmer Kitade said on the official Final Fantasy XV forums. This means two things: 1) the game is playable from start to finish, and 2) the first half of the game is finished with the quality of a final product. 

“We’re at the point where we can play the game in its entirety from start to finish,” Kitade said. “From this, everyone on the development team can get an overall view on the game.”

In other words, Kitade adds, they’re polishing every element, making adjustments to gameplay, and preparing to complete the game and all of its contents with the highest possible standard.

Kitade continued, “The first half of the game is finished with the quality of a final product, and you get the sense you’re playing it in its final form.”

Now the team understands the amount of manpower necessary to reach the desired level of quality in terms of gameplay and visuals, as well as the pacing of the game via outside testing.

Final Fantasy XV is due out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016. An official release date will be announced at an event in March 2016.

I hope they surprise us with a Summer release.

I can't wait for this game. It's gonna be a day one buy for me. and @Xxain I think it will most likely be a holiday release at least for the west

Does this mean we won't have to wait until the end of 2016 to play the game?

Maybe late Summer in Japan, Nov/Dec in US? I can't see them not trying to release before the Holidays in the west. Maybe it will launch around the same time as MGS5 did this year. This would be better for it. No sense in getting buried (like TR) in the AAA landslide in Oct-Dec. Not that FF would get buried but it would not get as much attention.

Final Fantasy, especially to the PS fanbase, will have no issues with being buried by anything. 

Summer release though, like July would be awesome. No college in the way. 

ya buried was too strong of a word. I guess I mean having to share attention. A May-Sep launch and it likely has the market to itself. While FF fans will buy it whenever it comes out, it has a better chance of bringing in others if they have nothing else new to play at the time it is launched. I fall into the category of whenever it launches it will be my priority, but there is many people who would play it, but it would not be their 1st choice. 

Makes more sense to come in November, to take advantage of the holidays.Plus they need time to build hype( with footage of the final product, I know this game has beena long time comming), so later in the year makes more sense
