Forums - Gaming - Question regarding strategy/RPG's

I'm trying to dive and get into this genre, but I find it hard and boring considering its more of like a board game.

Is there an easier way describing to me how this genre works?

Since I have now both the PSP and DS, I'm looking into buying Jeanne 'D Arc, Final Fantasy Tactics: Lions War and for the DS, Final Fantasy Tactics A2 or something like that.

Can some one help me with this genre? :)

Very confused at the question.... RPG is such a generic term you really have to define your question more.

RPG can, BUT doesn't usually include ALL or even a few of the falling:
Roleplay
Story
Combat
Personal Progression
Multiplayer
Strategy
In-Game Movies

Plain and simple.

Numbers: Checker Players > Halo Players

Checkers Age and replayability > Halo Age and replayability

Therefore, Checkers > Halo

So, Checkers is a better game than Halo.

I talking more about the battle system, then anything. It's rather boring and I'm trying to find a more easier or understanding about the battle system.

Example in that pic, I'm trying to get into this type of battle system.

I had the same problem the only SRPGs i managed to finish are FF:T and FF:TA. The rest i play get bored and never pick up again. I would suggest if you are having that much trouble then just avoid the genre. I have heard great things about Jeanne 'D arc.

Auron it's a hard genre, but I want to get into it. I was making a list of all the games I want for the PS3, X360, DS, and PSP. And as I came across Jeanne 'D Arc and Final Fantasy Tactics: Lions War for the PSP. I started to get interested into both of those games. I watched videos and as I was seeing how the battle system was going. I was like WTF. This is retarded and it looks boring, but I hear that both of these games are hyped pretty good and so is the Advance Wars games for the DS.

IDK, I want to. I might just test one of these Strategy/RPG's and if I like it I will jump into this genre if not then I will eliminate this genre.

Speaking as an owner of FFT: The Lion war:

The game is awesome. Yes it's like chess, but it's so full of win.

There are so many great games out there, and if you want to just start trying to get into it, it should be the obvious choice.

I've been procrastinating making a thread about an online tactics game. I think you've spurred me to do it, as I'm in love with this damn game even though it's still in beta.  Would love to battle some VGCharters with my wits.

Yeah, it's a little bit like a game of chess....hence, strategy rpg.

I recommend Jeanne d'Arc to you if you're new...it's a wonderful game.

Jeanne d'Arc is one of my favorite SRPG's of all time (Heroes of Might & Magic I-V are my favorites). I actually prefer it over Disgaea, Fire Emblem, and FF: Tactics.

Thanks for the opinions guys, I will buy Jeanne d'Arc next week when I buy Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII :)

I hope I can get into this genre.

Battle systems are hard to get right. The only to games I've played in RPG history where the battles havent become boring once is Grandia 2 (Dreamcast) and Lost Odyessey ( 360). The problem is grinding. Where you have to fight for hours to level up. If that happens alot in a game. It's a poorly concieved game.
