Forums - Gaming - That Nintendo Direct was all bad news to me

It was a decent direct. They showed more things than you are simply interested in.

I for one am excited for FF Explorers, DQ7 among others.

umm a good looking starfox game.. Twilight Princess actually looking like it deserved to be remade. And more Zelda Wii U footage. Also if the release dates were sooner also could have made it better.

Zelda TP wasn't remade though. It's just an HD port. You mentioned how it reveales that the textures look bad, and yes, that's what HD ports usually do. I'm not sure why everyone is so surprised. People keep mentioning Wind Waker as if it's a great comparison. But that game has very simple textures.

It's a lot easier to make a these plainly colored textures look better in higher reolution than it is with a game that has more detailed environments.
So people should not only have looked at Wind Waker, but other HD ports with graphical styles similar to TP.
That said, it still seems like Wind Waker HD was a more ambitious project, but I can't say for sure as I don't know how difficult the process was for both games.

I agree with what you are saying about twilight princess and windwaker.. It is just a port. But they should have done something like microsoft did with the halo port... But anyway WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SAYING I AM SURPRISED BY THIS lol or the fact that zelda wii U wont be out untill next christmas? I am not at all I knew they would disappoint me. I am just saying it is stupid and they need to get their shit together over at Nintendo. Unless they have some secret gems coming out we dont know about my Wii U is going to be collecting dust from now til november next year. And they wont sell many new ones either.

I thought it was very good. Mostly nothing I'm interested in, but content-wise, it was very well done.

I guess people think you're surprised since you point out that increased resolution reveales the shortcomings of the textures. That's generally to be expected. But there were also threads filled with people who thought that this would be a full blown remake in the style of the Zelda tech demo for the WiiU, and several comments about looking at this trailer and thinking they were showing the Wii version, and expecting it to change to the HD port. Then realized they were looking at TP HD the whole time.
While I was hoping Nintendo would do a bit more with it, it's still within the spectrum of what I expected. The moment I saw it, I knew what I was looking at. Many people seem to forget just how blurry the GC/Wii version was.

Youre right. It is way more clear. But as stupid as it might sound I actually prefer it blurry. Its funny in the trailer Reggie says the enhanced visuals bring new light to the memorable characters and detailed scenery.. But I think all they do is make you realize just how poorly that game has aged. So its still a great game but doubt ill repruchase it. And because of that and a few other things I pointed out I was upset with this direct thats all. But I never really expected much.

Yeah, Twilight Princess HD doesn't look like that much of an update. I will get it anyways, as I never owned a copy of the game. If I had the GC version, I wouldn't bother anyways.

I thought the direct was great!!! Oh well, not everyone will think the same. x )

Yeah, I agree. The Direct was crap, but I was totally expecting it. You can see they are trying to pretend as if it's all great in Nintendoland and they have us covered, but the reality is that well... Nintendo needs a brand new start. Badly. The only game that got me interested is DQ8 and I'd still rather play it on Vita in higher resolution than the crappy 3DS screen :/ I hated Amiibo being thrown in everywhere and talking about DLC all the time. I was neutral towards Amiibo at first, but after some time and hearing as more games had content and even levels hidden behind this paywall I got to really hate them. To me at this point it's just as bad as when MS was talking about TV at a certain conference...

SF0 looked nice during cut scenes, but as bad as previously during gameplay parts. I see this game as a massively missed opportunity. This could have been another Splatoon-level surprise hit, but looks like a filler instead.

TP HD... It looked fine at first, but after they showed Zelda U right after it, I realised just how little work they put into this port. Seriously, they put as little effort as they could. The art style is so much better than in Zelda U, but you can see the difference in grass being a totally flat texture in TPHD and actually being grass a moment later in Zelda U. It seems to me like they didn't do anything to this game, probably even used the original assets before the GCN/Wii would cut the resolution of textures. How much time did they invest into this port? Two weeks? I'd love to see a comparison of TPHD and Dolphin version of TP, something tells me Dolphin owns the Wii U version big time :/

Zelda U... Didn't like the way Epona looked. The flat colours were awful. The Direct was another proof that TP art style is miles better. At least the graphics level overall isn't as poor as in Star Fox. I expect Wii U games to look better than PS3 games and at least they reached that level here.

In general, Wii U is screwed in an unprecedented way. Next year will be brutal, no home console has ever been treated this badly. Just kill it already, Nintendo! And they didn't even cut the price, the way Sony and MS did. Just be done with it and roll NX out...

3DS is meh as well, but it's its last year, so it's decent enough. Fire Emblem and DQ8 are the only noteworthy games for me.

They better be preparing a bad ass launch lineup for NX and it better come in 2016... Otherwise, the future can be very, very bleak for Nintendo.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

SF0 looks better than what we originally saw with Zelda TP port not looking as great as the Dolphin version but for non Dolphin users it's still something.

I'm honestly more hyped that they are slapping the older Pokemon titles on eshop, all we have to do is hope they slap all the others on there and my life is complete.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

- StarFox still looks like a gamecube game and wont be out for half a year

- Twilight Princess HD actually looks worse because now that its so clear you can see how bad the textures are and see that the game has like no bump mapping.

- If StarFox doesnt come out until April when does Zelda Wii U come out? Next Christmas!? Come on thats just stupid.

Cloud in smash while cool was not enough to save this depressing direct. It is only 7 but  I am so sad I just want to go to sleep.

If you are Nintendo gamer then you have to accept trade off. Nintendo exclusives dont look good graphically. Though many people in this forum said graphics dont matter. But it seems it matters. Lol.

That was bad. No real new announcements. Where is Project Robot, Guard, Lost Reavers, Nintendo? Where is #FE? You again need 8-9 months for shitty localization?

TP HD looks like ass. You can get better picture in Dolphin in two clicks. And March 2016 release date, serious? I'm also sure Nintendo will want 60$ for that lazy port.

StarFox still looks bad. Nothing to say about it.

I'm not sure Aonuma know what he is doing with Zelda U. There is Link, his horse and field of grass. Final title, interface, dungeons, anything significant? They was very unsure with 2016 release date. Good luck them, all hype was killed years ago.

They still promote Pokken with Arcade version videos. I expect massive downgrade for the game.

Mario Maker update is ridiculous. No new items, no slopes, no themes, just web-portal for searching rare good levels in the ocean of unplayable trash.

3ds in even more pathetic situation. Localisation for bunch of old games and nothing more.

Well, at least it was better than E3 2015.

You own a Wii U, so think that over.

Lol I own a Wii U because I am forced to buy this garbage hardware to play Zelda that takes 5 years to come out. I hate it and Nintendo has done nothing but piss me off since the sale of Rare. But I am not really a gamer. Just play games that I grew up with. I dont get into anything new these days. But if I am going to be playing videogames I sure would like them to look good.

that was your first mistake, buying a system for ONE game which very obviously had an unclear release date from the start. not once did Nintendo actually confirm when it would release. they gave hopeful guesses but nothing should have led you on to expect it at whatever time. I will admit I am annoyed that Nintendo has been so slow with Zelda U, but to buy a system essentially for one game and then act shocked that you're disappointed is strange
