Forums - Microsoft - xone removes gesture menu navigation

I don't get it. Why just remove working features just because they're only used by a minority? I assume there is a deeper and probably more sinister reason behind this.

Free up resources used by the system so they can give to devs use in games.

That is how they are releasing new SDKs that can use more of the Xbone.

But they already freed up the Kinect resources for games ages ago.

I'm not an apologist but I find that voice control or controller input was a billion times faster, anyway. It was a cool trick but ultimately not that useful. If you have a Kinect, it's easier to just say "Xbox, go to Netflix" than it is to

-raise your hand over your head
-flip through panels to get to " my games and apps "
-flip through apps until you find Netflix
-hold your hand over Netflix and move your hand forward

With the new layout, it would be even more of a chore.

Tell that to people who have no tongues. The people that have cursed too much of God and got it chopped off in the middle of the street for everyone to witness. To strike fear into their hearts so they won't be doing the same crime. 😒

I didn't think about that. Or my daughter and her lisp. I'm sorry.

But what about gamers with no arms? They would feel left out. I think M$ was in a position where they were going to lose no matter what they do.  With all of the current sentiment about soldiers wounded in wars (thanks, Obama.) I think they folded under the pressure.

I guess they felt they needed even more... I can't see any dev complaining about that.

Last gen some features were removed too (at least on PS3)... it is sad but that happens all the time.

They removed the ability to watch Netflix online with a group of friends on 360. It was pretty awesome. Broke my heart. Like you said, happens all the time.

Off topic, has anybody tried streaming their Xbox One to a Windows 10 device? If so, how did it go? Feel free to post your experience in a thread. My pc and laptop both upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 a couple of days ago so this feature will definitely come in handy.

With a PSTV, WiiU game pad, and this update, I'm all set!

Usually there are actual reasons though and they're not features that were once "core to the experience".

I don't think gestures were core to the experience after they added voice controls and to be fair the MS strategy changed a lot... the core to the experience changed.

It's pretty nifty. You'll need to be hard wired or have a beast wireless network to get the best resolution though. You can use either Xbox 360 controller or Xbone controller. Was kind of pointless for me because my pc and TV are in the same room. Maybe if I want to record a gaming session to my PC I'll find a use for it.

My (wired) pc is also in the same room but my laptop goes wherever. Sometimes somebody is playing WiiU and it ties up the TV and my favorite alternative (curse you, Splatoon!). At least now, I have  more options.

UI navigation is completly separeted from game resources.

Unless Microsoft free one of the 2 CPU cores developers won´t have any extra power to work with.

But any way, if the feature was usefull why would they remove it just to get scraps of performance? The reasons are well stated, very few people made use of gesture navigation, no need to dig it deeper.
