The Lion is popularly known  as "king of the beasts" and "king of the jungle" but this is total bollocks. Here is a list of animals that could match or kick lion ass in a one on one fight.

Could easily destroy a Lion

Siberian and Bengal Tiger

Grizzly, Kodiak and Polar bear

Remeber this is in an equal one on one fight, of course lions have taken down these animals in packs or have killed their sick, old and young. I'm talking about a fully grown healthy lion against a fully grown healthy opponent. Encounters are rear so the first catergory is partly speculation the second category is  based on fact (Bears and Tigers fought lions in ancient rome and almost always won) and It's obvious that the big five herbivores are far too big for a lone lion. If there is any other land animal that has a chance against a lion please say.

Large Brown bears have been known to kill lions with one strike to the head.

We need to settle this in an animal death match. Two animals enter. One animal leaves.

Lions are like the dogs of the cat world. No wonder they're so incompetent.

Lions are kings because the more qualified wouldn't step up to the responsibility.

Yep the polar bear is the worlds most powerfull land carnivore. Even the grizzly bear wouldn't stand much of a chance.

I thought the lion was considered the king of beast because of how they get their females to do all the work without complaining while they sit on their lazy asses.

Humans are probably the only species in the history of planet earth where the weaker sex gives orders to the stronger.

But female black widows are the stronger sex in their species.

I bet some disease carrying bug would kill a lion. Or a poison frog or a pissed off kangaroo. There has to be more to it than brute strength.
