They say size doesn't matter.  That's what I HEAR they say, anyway.  I'm well endowed.  But what about when it comes to video games?  I've been kicking video game ass and taking video game names since the 80's.  Some games would take YEARS to beat.  Other games wouldn't last a weekend.  Hell, some games that I'd consider classics (ie: Starfox 64) had me looking at the end credits in total satisifaction after an hour or two.

So what's the perfect game length?  I'm a grown man with a full time job, a child, and a girlfriend.  I don't have the time to grind to level 99 in Final Fantasy to take on Ruby Weapon anymore.  I'm happy with a few hours of "Holy crap, this is awesome" compared to a few hours of "Holy crap, this is awesome--with a side of filler".  Respawning enemies, repetitive grinding, and a lot of the things that you have to do to become good at a game just don't appeal to me, nowadays.

But I'm just me.  I'm the guy that still hasn't finished The Order 1886 or Vanquish--two games that I highly enjoyed but are considered criminally short.  They weren't short enough for me and my attention span!  I'm the guy that got bored with GTAV and looked at a game like Red Dead Redemption like it was going to be a chore to complete.  I'm the guy that would LOOOOOOOVE it if Metal Gear Solid V was just eight hours long.  This isn't about me.  It's about YOU!

Love to get into games and I am getting used to play some games + 100 hours..



I don't know, OP. For me, it depends on the type of game. A fighting game can be short as long as it keeps me engaged. With a JRPG, I like to feel like I've grown more powerful and as a character by the time I finish. That's going to take a little more time.

You really should have put more thought into that first post.



i find i really appreciate the games that last ~5 minutes these day. rocket league is the best.


anyways,.. any game that main line story mode takes over 50 hours is a fucking chore to me. 10 is about right for me then add in some side questy stuff and if i really like your game i'll play that too. ..but don't take forever getting to the fucking point.



$60 game. 20 hours is perfect for that worth. Culmination of modes and bonus material too. Not counting any DLC. Weather free or not. Main game needs to be at 20 hours. I won't count fetch quests. Like the Riddler pieces in Batman. Or the postman quest in Majora's Mask. If you're at only 5 hours. $20.

That seriously depends on the game or it's genre.

For example, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic lasts me 50-60 hours to do just about everything. The game is so great however and doesn't get tedious in any way, that to me this is actually still 50-60 hours too short.

However, in a stage based or linear story based game, things can sometimes get too long. Even a more adventure based one, like Luigi's Mansion, which I absolutely loved, could have made due with 10 hours less than the 30 I put into the game to complete it when it got repetitive.

Then, open ended games like SimCity or arcade style games like Star Fox are something else entirely of course.

In short, there's no way I can answer this.



Personally, I'm probably not going to pay $60 for a 5 hour game. I'm not saying someone else shouldn't, or there is anything inherently wrong with 5 hours games, but I'm simply going to wait until it falls under $30 or so.

Value is one part of that but, honestly, I simply enjoy long games more. I like games I can sink my teeth into, where I can work on unlockables and goals, where I can explore and find new things to poke at with a stick or a sniper rifle. That's just the kind of gaming experience I'm after.



Around 30 hours to play the main story and finish most or all side quests.

Honestly if I pay 60$ for it, I want 10-20 hours atleast, thats for the single player element.

The multiplayer element shouldnt count towards "time" spent gameplay wise.
Its just a "added" reason to buy a game for me, not the main one.

^ Im that nut that plays a game forever, grinding stuff out, collecting everything and doing all the side story quests, while others just rush through it.

I dont enjoy spending 60$ to be done with a game in 5hours, Id feel ripped off if I bought Halo 5 for its campagne mode.

(and yes Im mostly into single player, and not big fan of shooters, so....)



depends on the game and story. TLoU was 15 hours and it was fucking perfect. UC2 was around 9 hours and it felt just right. The Witcher took forever, but holy fuck i never wanted to end.
