Forums - Sony - COD4 PS3 Patch Update Features

 I just saw this poste over at Gametrailers and thought all the CoD4 fans would want to know.  But some of the people have been saying that the Killcam and the new Host settings are not working.  I'm about to go find out, i just hope the Snipers are really fixed along with the lag, i'll be the one getting 30+ sniper kills every game now.

 

New Kill Cams - Everything that can kill you has a Kill Cam now. Grenades, Airstrikes, Claymores, C4, M203 Rounds, RPGs, anything. So jump online, get owned alittle and check them out. They’re awesome, especially Grenades and M203 shots that go across the map and through a window.

Host Migration - Host migration was added, so now when the host leaves you won’t get dropped back to your own lobby by yourself. Everyone will stay together. Host Leaves, everyone returns to lobby, selects next best host, and the game starts up again. No more re-inviting, re-partying up because a host ended the game.

Improved Sniper Accuracy - The Sniper rifle accuracy has been improved. No more, WTF? shots now. Your cross hair will be a better representation of where your shot will ultimately land. Try out a sniper class today, let us know how the new accuracy feels.

Improved ACOG Scope Accuracy - ACOG scopes accuracy on any weapon has been improved. Test it out, throw it on one of your classes and give it a go.

Upgraded Spectator Cam - Now when you’re a spectator you have the option to follow in 3rd person or 1st person. As well as rotate 360 degrees around the player you’re watching. Next time you’re dead in Search and Destroy and just watching your team mates do stuff you know you can do better, now do it in 1st person or rotate around them.

Quick Mute Option - Now you can easily and quickly mute players annoying players in-game.

In addition to these feature additions there will also be:

Improved Network Performance For Larger Games - 18 player games now require more bandwidth to host, resulting in smoother performance for players.

Optimized Server Selection for First Match - Server selection is now optimized to select best bandwidth servers associated by LSP.

Fixed “Playlist Older Than Host” Error - Player will no longer get this error when entering games.

Additional Start Spawn Locations in All Maps - Added a minimum of 9 extra start spawns on each side of all maps.

That's what I've been waiting for. Time to play CoD4 again.

@d21lewis, the 360 version got their's last week.



Improved sniper accuracy. Can't wait to see the complaing about that.



Is the patch available on PC yet?

I'm kinda sick of COD4 now, but this might rekindle the addiction.



Around the Network

I've been playing Hardcore S&D most of the day since the patch. Sniper and acogs are working great! My favorite feature is the new spectator view you get in S&D, you can now move the cam with the Right Stick and switch to First Person by pressing triangle. I love First Person spectating its awsome, I just got back into CoD4 so I'm spending alot of my time on the "sidelines", lol.

360 has had it for about a week



I'm back...

I just played 4 matches of ground war and the new killcams are great, but the lag is still everywhere. I tried the ACoG SAW on Vacant and from one end of the hallway to the other the gun could not kill anything, i use the perks deep impact and stopping power on the ACoG. I went 4-8-4, And fired over 600rounds in that game, that seems pretty broken to me. With the red dot on the SAW i would of had 20+kills no problem.

The other 3 games i used the Sniper rifles, i went 19-7, 12-7, 12-8. I had no close up attacks with the sniper rifles so i was unable to tell if the gun was still broken on those shots, i also had no standing still targets so no way to see if that was fixed. The lag still affected my ability to get all the kills i had wished for, but i was able to get over 50% of my kills without holding my breath, before the patch that would of been under 10%. This could be due to luck and further testing will be needed.

But overall the new killcams added alot more fun to the matches. I have also yet to see a host leave, anyone else see a host leave and the game switch host, or is there not notice if this is done. IW also added their name to the map screen while the game is loading.



Theres rarely lag in Hardcore and I've seen a huge improvement on the sniper and acog. I prestiged a little while ago and the only gun I unlocked acog for was my skorpion.....so I tried it out (looked ridiculously stupid, acog was as big as the gun) and I can say the acog is fixed and performs well. :)

Yes, Host migration still sucks balls.

 I think the little lag in Hardcore is due to so few players in that game mode. While Ground War i bet is the most played mode.  Also the slower nature may cause less lag as you have so few players doing a Run and Gun style.  Plus the lack of a killcam may make it harder to notice lag if you don't see where the person killed you from.  As i have seen many killcams of guys killing me when they were right in front of me but there was nothing on my screen. 

But the killcam that follws the grenade being tossed in the air to the other side of the map is great.
