Forums - Gaming - The two highest rated console titles of 2015 are Japanese

Before you ask, i'm using the entries with the most reviews, so for instance MGS5 is a 93, not a 95.

http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/year/all/filtered?year_selected=2015&sort=desc

MGS5 at 93 and Bloodborne at 92

Witcher 3 being the third highest rated does balance it out, but I thought it was curious. And there's still Fallout 4 left to change things up I suppose.

2014 was not all that different

Super smash bros, Dark souls 2 and Bayonetta 2, with the TLOU and GTA remaster/re-releases being the only real western challengers

Different from previous years (2013: GTAV, TLOU, Bioshock infinite) (2012: ME3, Walking Dead and Journey, with P4golden being the japanese challenger) (2011: Arkham City, Skyrim, Portal 2), higher western dominance.

What do you think 2016 will look like?

One of those games is also despised by almost its entire fanbase, so I'm gonna go ahead and say that we can wipe that one from the slate. Still impressive that Japan has even one universally acclaimed game like Bloodborne considering a few years ago reviewers treated Japan like it was dead outside of Nintendo. Dark Souls III will repeat this performance though, so one has to wonder if it's the quality of the game that got the score or the fact that it's more Souls, since the gaming media is all over the Souls series' dick at this point. But that's neither here nor there.

Hopefully P5 will continue the trend of non-Nintendo Japan being relevant in the West again.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

2014 will be remembered as "the year were The Evil Within scored a 75".

Just a note: Super Smash Bros and Bayonetta 2 are japanese games, also.

I'm just gonna keep pretending it was actually 175 and Metacritic just forgot to add the 1 at the beggining

@rogerioandrade, I know, that's why I listed them along with DS3 as 2014's japanese games.
