Forums - Microsoft - IGN: Halo 5 Ads Lied To You *SPOILERS*

I take very little issue with the initial teaser (it wasn't a direct teaser for Halo 5 in the first place, and even if it was it came out long enough ago that it could easily have been something they scrapped, or even something they pulled together before the actual story was even finished), but i can understand why people would take issue with some of the more recent marketing. It's not outright lying, but it is a bit dishonest.

I'm not sure why Halo 5 would be the game that gets them to bring this kind of discussion to light though. Regardless to its present day quality (which i can't comment on), Destiny is a much better recent example of dishonest marketing.

what was dishonest about destiny's marketing?

Only thing I can think of is based on the marketing I was expecting massive open world while it turned out to be more of a hub game.

I thought you could actually be transported into the game since it showed two douches in commercial playing the game in real life.

Spartan assault is an excellent mobile game all things considered....

And I don't really care if trailers match the actual content... Actually quite the opposite.. I'd rather have everything kept secret as much as possible

then dont watch the trailers. but marketing one thing and delivering something else should be unacceptable.

then don't buy the game... All that matters to me is the quality of the end product...

(damn I have marketed unacceptably a lot for the past decade lol)

WTF, in my opinion: that is unacceptable. @microsoft

given I saw very little Halo marketing and I'm unlikely to ever play the game I can't have an opinion on whether or not Halo 5 marketing was misleading in any substantial way. However I will be interested to hear the opinions of commentators and pundits who's opinions I respect, not necessarily agree with.

If someone can frivolously sue Sony for over resolution then if MS's marketing sin is bad enough I'm sure someone will try to sue MS due to misrepresentation of game content, if it is really as bad as some people think.

Yeah I posted this in another thread. I was pretty shocked at the degree of misleading. And these are 2 massive halo fans, so u know it's bad when they have such negative things to say about halo 5.

i'd have paid good money to have trudged around a desert landscape in the same garb as the initial reveal, as master chief :(

whats your point exactly? that companies should say there game is one thing, then give out another? and that it doesnt matter, as long as what ever game is out, even if its very different than they tried  to make it seem it is, is decent?

I take it you take great offense in the way MGS2 was marketed?
