Forums - Gaming - gta iv price in Australia

http://www.kotaku.com.au/games/2008/03/you_want_gta_iv_australia_thatll_be_120_thanks.html

It's not $99.95. It's not even $109.95. No, my friends, Grand Theft Auto IV will have a recommend retail price of $119.95 in Australia. Note that while the PS3 version of the game is shown here (which seems to be a publisher favourite for inflated prices) the Xbox 360 will also cop the $120 price tag.

This is for the standard game, not the Collector's Edition. It smarts even more when you consider it'll retail for $US 59.95 in the States. That's ~$65 Australian, which means we're basically paying double the price.

We asked Rockstar's local presence for some answers, but all it was willing to do was confirm that the price was correct and applies to both platforms. It also provide a $149.95 price tag for the Collector's Edition. All I can say is there better be a Dodge Viper - or a fully functional animatronic Jessica Alba - in the CE box, or it's going to be yet another bitter pill for Oz gamers to swallow.

This is an outrage. Double the price for the same game. I know the Australian market is smaller but to do this to us is rediculous.

Well its normally double price isnt it?

Games retail for $50 usually in the Us, and are $100 here. With the exchange rate $50US is about $53 isnt it? So thats pretty much double.

If a game retails $60 in the Us, then its gonna be $120 here.

The only time we pay worse is on budget games. Retail in US is $30, but we pay $80...Instead of taking off $40, they only take of $20....

australian prices are including vat, while US prices aren't hm? what's the vat in australia ?

what is vat? Is it tax. If so it's at 10%. So the game minus tax would still be about $109.

Would you talk about Europe prices??

a PS3 game usually cost 69,9€.... about 110 US$

They do 1:1 price conversion between US$ and €...

Lots of "next-gen" Australian games get this price tag - its nothing new.

I'm just glad that most "good" Wii titles can be purchased for $79 at places such as JB HiFi - GTA will almost certainly get the same treatment, given the exchange rate.

If there is any title that stores know that consumers WILL purchase regardless of price - its GTA. Its the one real money making title for them.

They will be purchasing copies for at little as $40-$50AU in bulk, wholesale.

Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:

Just import, I thought the ps3 and 360 were region free. With the Aus$ being 0.95 to the us$ its a good time to import.

JB does all good "new" 360 games at $79 for about two weeks after they are out.  After that they jump back up to $100.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

What a rip off, I will pick this up three months later when its reduced in July sales. GTA IV will be so meh. Not worth paying an arm and a leg for an over rated game. GTA games are so boring.

Sweet asparagus pie, that's expensive. If you have a PS3, try and import, probably be alot cheaper. It's US currentcy messing things up. $120Aus = £55, okay so £15 more then what we'll be paying is alot but if we had US prices, we'd be paying £30.

Hmm, pie.
