Forums - Gaming - So... Why everybody complains so much about Wii U's hard drive and not the PS4 one?

Vodacixi makes a fair point. Yes, 32GB is obviously smaller than 500GB, but the fact remains that all three 8th gen consoles have insufficient storage space. So-called AAA games are getting bigger and bigger. That fact, combined with mandatory installs that take up huge amounts of real estate, makes 500GB a lot less impressive than it sounds.

I'm having storage issues with my Wii U, my PS4, and my Xbox One. I'm sure many other consumers are having similar problems.

That´s the point.

Ok, a few weeks ago I bought a PS4. And while I'm really enjoying everything it has to offer, there's one thing that really pisses me off: even if your games are physical copies, you still have to install the entire game in the console's hard drive mandatorily. Now, it wouldn't bother me if you had an incredibly big hard drive. Buy while 500 GB (now there's a 1TB model, ok) sounds like a lot, at the moment of truth you'll not even realize and you'll have fill the disk completley. So, 500 GB is close to nothing.

And when that happened to me yesterday, I could do nothing but remember how much critized Nintendo was because of its hard drive size. The thing is that even if 32 GB is total crap if you go for digital games, at least you can play as many physical games as you want, without having to worry about it. And at least you can use any external hard drive on the Wii U (even a flashdrive), while PS4 needs an specific one, open the console, etc...  So, the situation is, in fact, better in Wii U that it is in PS4, or at the very least, is exactly as bad in both platforms for one reason to another. But, for some reason, while PS4 wasn't that much criticized about this situation, Nintendo got a lot of of hate because of it. My question is... why so many hate for one and so little for the other if, in the end, the situation is not very different between them?

And I know I could just remove the data of the games I already finished, but that's not the point.

I'm confused by your first paragraph. Why does the time you realize your HD is full mean that it's close to nothing? most people it would take them years to fill that all. That hardly makes it quilify as nothing. Otherwise. 1 TB is only twice nonthing. 2TB 4 times nothing. Is it a little small? Yeah, but once again most people won't need bigger for years. You can easily replace it with a larger one deleting and installing games on the system is really fast.

There was also an 8 GB wii u. That added quite a bit to the reasons the wii u is thought of to have low space especially since that has only 3 GB of useable space. The next even with 32 GB in the system name you only have about 25GB that you can use. That would be all the save data for all the players and and DLC games or any digital games. It really is a small amount. Many people could be fine with this depending on gaming habbits but I imagine many more will be using external storage. While you can you use thumbdrives. Nintendo themselvse don't recomend this. They recomend ones with extrenal power supplies. They also don't recomend solid state drives. http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1474/~/wii-u-internal-storage-space-information.

There are many games on this list that would take up over half of your default hard disk space (as long as you bough the 32, the 8 has a ton of games that would require an external hard drive. It's from April so I"m sure there are more big ones since.

On this even older ps4 list. There is room for every single game and ap listed with 12 gigs to spare.  http://www.ign.com/wikis/playstation-4/PlayStation_4_Actual_Hard_Drive_Space I doubt anyone would want all those games and unless someone was trying to get all the biggest games with all the DLC most people could easily fit over 20 games. No console has ever had a tie ratio even near that, so the console is fine for the masses as is without any more space, while the Wii U could very easily run out of default storage well before then.

I love how people just read the OP, ignore the rest of the thread and trIes to argue things that have already been discussed. I'm done with this thread loooong ago xD

I hadn't seen several of those points made answered by you, I also had some point that werern't made in the 100 plus posts of the thread. It's good to know you won't be replying though, I recomend you ask  a mod to lock the thread then.

i bought an 8gb wii U that was cheaper than the 32gb model. with the money i saved, i bought an external HDD for my 8gb wii U, went almost all digital, and I never had problems with wii U storage.

The fact that I'm not replaying doesn't mean that other people can't discuss about this thread.

Also yes, every one of your points have been, if not answered completley, discussed. By me or by other people. Anyway, most of your arguing is about "you can't have that many games" or "you can replace the hard drive or delete games". The second point has been discussed a lot. My thing with that is... I don't want to delete any of my games. In fact, I shouldn't have the need of installing them in ther first place: there is a reason why they are physical copies.  The replacing the disk thing... that only reinforces my point of view: sooner or later, if you don't delete your PHYSICAL GAMES, you'll need to replace your hard drive. To have more PHYSICAL GAMES. Can't see that that's just bullshit? And about the second point you make... Well, I can play that many games. Maybe you don't have the money, nor the time to play them. I have ended my working season (we tourism workers at Mallorca work almost exclusivley on summer), I have earned my money and I have plenty of free time. And even if we consider my situation as an abnormaly, in the same way you say that you can have 20+ games on the disk, I can say that with 9 I filled it completley. So, there you have it.

Bye.

Where did anyone adress that there was also a 8bg model. A few people mentioned having one. Some some to complain another to say that with the saving they bought an external HD

Who adressed that while you can use flash drives nintendo recomends not useing them?

Sony made a destion to have all physical games install on the system so that they can run better. I support that, why? because I like my games to run better. They system can read information off both the hardrive and the disk at the same time.  Your complaint seems more about the fact that you have to install games than over the size of the drive itself, and that's why you hear many more complaing about the wii u over the ps4. Most people are fine with the set up.

Once again you missed the point that most people that buy a ps4 will NEVER need to buy a new hard drive because most of them won't own that many games.

I know I will need to upgrade but I have been a plus subscrier for years so I know that even a terabyte or two won't hold all my games eventually. I have over 300 games on my ps3. As well as game data for many of my phtsical games. Yes that has been going on since before the ps4, yes it wasn't all data of all games but even with the whole game being required for the install, they still install much faster on the ps4.

What 9 games filled your hard drive?

People clearly haven't read the OP.... You don't need to install physical copies like you do on the ps4 and xbox one... He's right.

The situation is equally as bad. Look past the numbers.

most of the games, yes... but with xenoblade chronicles x you'll have to install +14gb of data that isn't on the disc, you'll have to download it...
