Not entirely true, we've been falling behind Moore's Law for quite some time now.  It's now closer to every 2.5 years, as opposed to Moore's original 2 year prediction.

I want to buy day one just for the awesome, awesome MP but I worry about DLC and Naughty Dog Points.

ps1 to ps2 - 6 years 3 months

ps2 to ps3 - 6 years 7 months

ps3 to ps4 - 7 years

it is increasing with each gen.  developers mostly are unable to take advantage of the tech they have today and those that try have almost crushingly high development budgets and long development cycles.  if this gen last 5 years than prepare for U4 to be the only ND game this gen.   ..then think about how retarded that statement is and conceed that a 5 year console cycle isn't happening.  it will be at least 7 years probably close to 8.

I don't want a direct sequel to Joel & Elli's story. The ending was perfect the way it was. New characters in a different location hopefully. 

I think they could go anywhere, like a brand new story in the world that doesn't conflict with joel and ellies. Would be weird to see them again because at this point, safe at Joel's brothers camp, what else could happen to Ellie. The odd person coming to kill them wouldn't be much of a story.

Maybe she has children & they inherit her inability to get infected? A story can branch from there IMO.

Good news for the fans

Yet they're still struggling for 1080p 60fps in AAA developement and the market is still flooded with AAA titles. If we're going by patterns expect PS4 support to exist for a good few years after PS5's release, as cross gen support has increased each gen. Now engines are more and more scalable and console hardware is becoming more aligned. PS5 could arrive in 2018, share 100% of its software with the PS4 for 3 years and still likely sell a good amount. You have to at least try and predict what next gen is going to look like before dismissing an early arrival as "retarded"
