Remaster isnt a thing. Thats a fancy term they came up to sell you the game. A remaster is a port.

A remake is a rebuilding of the same game from scratch. Can have added stuff or not. But everything is rebuilt from the ground up.

True, but in a sense it has become a thing just by seperation of non enhanced vs enhanced port. We made it a thing

What about a game like DMC (Devil May Cry).  It's a reboot but would it be considered a remake as well?  It's REALLY made from scratch!!  I'm just playing devil's advocate, mind you.....

Reboots/reimaginings are their own things: They are retellings that stick to "defining concepts" but take liberties with it.

Facinating.  See, somebody else in this thread said "They can take a movie and remaster it in HD, change scenes around, add CG effects, and all sorts of other stuff and it's still not a remake. It's only a remake if they reshoot the whole thing."

Which is weird.  The movies I've seen--let's say Robocop--when they do that, it isn't called a reboot.  It's called a remake.  Who is right?  Who is wrong?  It's crazy!!

Does new robocop follow same plot as OG Robocop  or is it just a concept level?

Remake for sure. I've always thought that Remasters like Tomb Raider definitive edition are just money grabs.

It almost has nothing in common besides the name of the characters and the way he looks....sometimes.

One more thing - Movies never retell story the same way as original, so by default they are going to be Reboots/reimaginings.

That is not the case for a video game. Wild Arms Alter code F follows same plot as original

Fair enough.  So should we continue using the movie or music industry definition of "remake" or "remaster" to define video games?

Full Remake (Resident Evil/FF4 DS) > Semi-Remake (Halo1/2) > Enhanced Remaster (WWHD/FFX?) = 2D Remake (FF4 PSP) > Remaster > Original

BUT.. outside graphics, a remake could end up inferior to the original game. As is the case with The Twin Snakes.

You got that right!  Sucked all of the drama from certain scenes.  I immediately went back and played the PS1 game after finishing the GC version.  Sniper Wolf deserved better!

i don't mind remasters/ports/remakes.
no one is forcing people to buy again the game you already have. The TLoU remaster was great for me because i didn't get the chance to play it on ps3. Same goes for GTA V.

IMO Cash grabs are remasters/lazy ports no one ask for *looks at Prototype/Activision*. Others, where voices have risen to ask for them, are fine imo, since i see it as devs/publishers delivering what the fans have asked for.
