Forums - Gaming - Intel and Razer team up for more VR tech

- technology is aimed at PC and streaming games on Twitch

- the companies announced the partnership during the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco on Tuesday

- the camera will use Intel’s RealSense technology to track player movement and translate it into the game

- It will imcorporate Razer's OSVR headset

- capabilities for streamers include, according to a Razer statement:

“significantly enhanced game broadcasting,”

“automatic background removal” (think no more green screens)

“a more entertaining and immersive experience.” (So instead of that white box that most streamers appear in, you will see a floating body positioned somewhere on the game screen.)

- Razer co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan says:

“Gamers will, we expect, be able to enhance their broadcasting and VR experience in unprecedented ways,”

- Device remained unnamed and there is no official release date but there is speculation for early 2016. Demonstrations are being given during Intel Developer Forumthis week so the technology appears to be in advance stages of development, making this speculations of an early 2016 release plausible.

- Razer is the company that bought the software division from the Ouya

VR seems to be of interest to various companies, isn't it?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Around the Network

The way I see it, the Intel RealSense camera seems to do what Kinect was supposed to do on both Xboxes, so it's kind of weird that Razer went with Intel for the tech and then build the whole thing when Microsoft already had the whole package. Or maybe they did go to Microsoft but they said no, who knows.

We'll have to wait until someone posts a hands-on article to know how well it works, althought they will mostly talk about the VR device, not the camera... which would be good news because that would mean that the camera does its job.
