Funny story.

We've also had precisely one Wii returned since the launch last November. The Wii was returned as defective by a very fat, unkempt child who looked angry and stubborn and most of us immediately suspected he simply didn't know how to properly connect the sensor bar (which we suggested to him, but he'd have none of it).

So I hooked up the Wii and tried bowling, and as expected, it worked like a charm. More interesting, though, was the Wii remote: it had Cheetoh stains -- tons and tons of fat-little-boy Cheetoh stains. It was practically solid orange.  We got a new Wii remote, put it in the box, and resold it.  We informed the customer that it had been used, but they didn't mind since they managed to walk into a store and buy a Wii and we told them they could return it if something didn't work.

The PS3 is hard to gauge, because we had a bunch of (presumably) failed Ebay attempts when the thing launched. January-February, we returned almost as many as we sold -- say, 3-4 returns a month, against 6-7 sales. Since March, we have recieved no returns.

We recieve about 1 360 returned every two months.

Yeah geez he shoulda got an orange Wii-remote skin.

Stupid fat kids like that shouldnt own games.

Interesting we now have 2 great gamestore owner/workers to post - keep it up.

Have you got anymore F2 copies in? It seems that its now supply-constrained somewhat.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Cool to see someone from a store with more hardcore oriented sales to even out bodhestava's more casual oriented store.

What kind of software sales does your Circuit City see?

I'm sure that our military population greatly influences are sales.

Sports titles, racing titles, and FPS games sell out quick. Pre-orders on Halo 3 are very high. We still have problems keeping Call of Duty 3 in stock on the PS3 and 360. Forza 2 sells out as soon as we get it. Madden is always impossible to keep in stock on every system. We've sold maybe two copies of Shadowrun.

We don't seem to get many PS3 games for some reason. We have a total of 13 games and 6 titles in stock right now. Sad. We've gone through a great amount of Motostorm and Resistance: Fall of Man.

On the other hand, party games sell great. Wii play is usually out of stock, Mario Party 8 is hard to find anywhere in the city, and Wario Ware: Smooth Moves does really well. Sing Star for the PS2 consistently sells as well.

RPGs seem to do good, but only on the handhelds. RTS games such as Command and Conquer need to be replenished often as well...mostly on the PC, though.

How many H3 pre-orders would you estimate have been.....pre-ordered?

you have to pre-order pre-ordered now?

what is the world coming to?

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I'm not sure how many Halo 3's we'll wind up getting on launch day, but we typically don't get more than about 40-50 of a major title on a given system for launch day. We've probably pre-ordered close to 35 already. Heh, a decent amount being actual employees. =P

Circuit City just started a new initiative to get even more pre-orders. If you pre-order it right now, you get a 4' Spartan wall cling when the game comes in. This hasn't really affected our pre-orders yet, but I'm sure that numbers will spike in other markets as a result.

On pre-orders, Kotaku posted an update last night on World In Conflict for the PC having a load of sweet pre-order incentives:

# The History Channel's "Modern Marvels: Strategic Air Command" DVD.
# Access to the game's beta, which goes live in July.
# Bonus maps for both the beta and upcoming demo.
# You can reserve a screen name before the game ships

IMHO, I think publishers are really going to start pushing pre-order incentives with giving away swag hand-over-fist to the early adopters. When you think about it, the digital IP costs them nothing to give away up front, while the physical stuff doesn't cost but 50 cents to make. In this day and age, I could see screen name "reservations" being a HUGE incentive. It will be interesting to see where publishers go over the next ten years, and how consumers respond. With game dev budgets going up and up, it'll become increasingly more important for dev teams to recoup their investment with $60 launch window sales, not $20 Greatest Hits repacks.

At least, in my case, I've always been shy about dropping $60 on a new PC title when I know that if I hold out for only six months to a year, there is almost always going to be a 'gold' or 'diamond' super-deluxe edition with a bunch of expansions for $20. Over the last three years of the PS2, I didn't purchase ANY new games, when I knew I could instead pick up between three to four re-released classics that I'd missed the first time around for the same price as just one new release.
