Forums - Gaming - Sony Extends Champions League Sponsorship

UEFA today announced that an agreement has been reached with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), one of the world's leading manufacturers of games consoles and publisher of computer games, to extend its relationship as an official partner of the UEFA Champions League.

This agreement is for three seasons, commencing at the start of 2015/16, and will include the UEFA Super Cup in 2015, 2016 and 2017, as well as the UEFA Women's Champions League final and UEFA Youth League finals for the above-mentioned three seasons.

Xperia joins PlayStation
The new deal will incorporate not only PlayStation, currently the official gaming partner, but also Sony Mobile's Xperia brand within the mobile category, and will run until the end of the 2017/18 football season. It will see Sony's involvement with Europe's most prestigious club football competition come to life through its exclusive products and services.

Commenting on the agreement, Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA Events SA marketing director, said: "We are very pleased that Sony has extended its sponsorship, as we will continue to work closely with PlayStation, but we now also welcome Sony Xperia into the partnership.

"This will enable ground-breaking entertainment to bring excitement to fans around the world through the UEFA Champions League relationship."

Jim Ryan, president and chief executive officer, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, said: "Our relationship with UEFA and the UEFA Champions League is incredibly important to us, and we see it as a very natural fit for our brand and audience.

"We are excited to continue this relationship for another three years and look forward to bringing something new, fun and exciting to our gamers that will be a uniquely PlayStation approach to the UEFA Champions League."

SCEE joins Heineken and Nissan as the third official partner of the UEFA Champions League for the 2015–18 seasons, alongside adidas, which is the official supplier.

The PS5 Exists.

Great. Xperia can certainly use some added exposure, they are top notch quality phones, they just need a marketing push, and PS brand can help in Europe a lot.

Xperia replacing htc I think.

Will that mean Sony's overall partnership has doubled, or have they split their existing adspace in two? I think the former.

They severed ties with FIFA recently, so NET spend is likely the same, if a bit lower.

I would just like to see a TV/cinema advert for Sony phones, THAT ACTUALLY ADVERTISE SOME OF THEIR FEATURES!

Waterproof (I think 'Party-proof' will go down well with ALOT of young people)
Dedicated high def audio processor (on recent Z series phones)
And of course PS4 remote play (And why not do PSNow streaming while they're at it)

And see the sales come in. Or something like that.
