Forums - Gaming - Should video games be made available in public libraries?

There have been thousands of video games available at my library for years (since 2006-2007). Wii, Wii U, PS3, PS4, X360 and X1 are all there. Every year they expand as it is clearly very popular along with CDs and DVDs.

You have to wait 3 months after street release and generally long lines on wait list, but if you're patient can rent tons of games from past few years. They even added 3DS and Vita last year which is cool.

Some people do keep them, but they are charged day one MSRP (usually $60) for doing so and has not been a major issue in this case any more than books or films.

Some libraries already do. I remember going to get games from the library when I was a kid.

Ditto, benefits of living in the UK. Although not been to one is a while, not sure if the ones near me now do.

Hmm, pie.

I think that they would either get stolen or destroyed.

I always found that weird and defeats the purpose of the library.

I dont mind moves/tv and video games but should keep in line with them being educational, (ie. documentary films and video games like Brain Age)

Why would they get stolen more than any other thing in the library?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

They're a lot more desired.

Doesn't explain why they would get stolen. At a place where they have your contact information. It's easier to steal from any shop than from the library.

...Please tell me you're joking. Video games "more desired" than books.

At a library.

Right.

You really think that people are more willing to steal a book than a game?
