This is really only bad for the release date. It isn't as if Yager is some AAA studio that has turned out amazing game after amazing game. They have a single game anybody really knows about, and even if Spec Ops: The Line had a great story, the gameplay was incredibly average. It isn't as if the Dead Island series is noted for being a spectacular piece of work either, but if they really want to pull the series out of the gutter, they need a developer that will be capable of turning out a game that prioritizes gameplay and does it well.

I have no interest in playing Dead Island 2, I just hope Yager isn't hit with major layoffs...

In Dead Island 2 you were going to be placed in a server with 7 other characters, either randoms or friends if you had that many friends online. So I assume that means an online connection was required. Maybe there was a singleplayer mode as well though. Who knows what will happen now though, the next developer may start from scratch instead of continuing the game Yager was developing. |
While the single player campaign is still available, Dead Island 2 will also afford players the chance to take advantage of a seamless eight-player multiplayer experience. You’ll all be sharing the same map, so it’s up to you if you want to help each other out, make trouble for one another or simply go your own ways.

I'm sure they'll be fine, Dreadnought isn't even out yet and that's getting a good amount of publicity.
Hmm, pie.
