Forums - Microsoft - HoloLens' field-of-view may be a problem without a solution

Even though HL has so many positive qualities that leave people impressed, FOV problem is huge, and by MS's own words is not likely to be solved.

"You find yourself constantly aware of the little edges of your world as you look around, with the holograms slipping out of existence if you move your head even a small amount - in some ways, it serves to remind you of how amazing the hologram itself actually is, but it keeps the experience from normalizing."

Today, Kinect feels like an afterthought. Improving HoloLens' field-of-view may be crucial if it is to avoid the same fate.

ArsTechnica had similar comments about Hololens a few months ago: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/05/hololens-still-magical-but-with-the-ugly-taint-of-reality/

I agree if they can't fix the issue then Hololens will go from damn cool to 'good in theory' in no time. It is exciting tech though if they can nail it.

Still think its going to find success.... 15years from now in smart phones with glasses.
Its just ahead of its time, its the first gen (needs to work out the kinks), and launching on a platform that doesnt actually need it.

Once its on smart phones, those suckers will take over the world and everyone will run around with hololenses on.

Shouldn't it be really easy to fix though? Just make the screen wider in the final product.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Like I said and the same goes for Kinect: awesome piece of tech with awesome potential but a thing that I want to stay the fuck away from my gaming.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I'm just gonna wait for Hololens 2.0 until even considering buying one.

do you even realize how amazing Hololens would be for card based games?

Microsoft deserves credit for actively pursuing this kind of technology. However, it is obvious that HoloLens is still at its infant stage. On paper, it can possibly become the next greatest piece of technology, but there's a big difference between having a lot of potential vs. achieving that potential.

A few things.... There is no such thing as a problem without solution especially in that case... And Kinect is anything but after thought... Not only the tech is brilliant and unparalleled at that price today it also gets in my case more daily usage than the pad since I don't have much time to play....

Considering Kinect and hololense are both techs at a very embryonic stage saying it's an afterthought is ludicrous...man if all you guys and those pseudo journalists had been around a few centuries back we'd still be travelling on horse back and carriage and use smoke signals to communicate... You guys have zero depth of vision it's saddening

Well MS already said it's not mainly for gaming, not even tied to Xbox, it just "well it's a standalone device so it also support play games, if someone want to".
