Forums - Gaming - The legacy of SEGA

Yeah. SEGA. Love them or hate them. These guys were really cool. They screwed themselves with poor decisions but the legacy they left is it influencial in gaming. After the success of NES nobody dared to counter Nintendo. SEGA had the guts and challenged them. Genesis doesnt what Nintendont. This is still relevant in todays gaming. This is how you tackle a titan in a console gaming.

With the funding of Shenmue 3 another big legacy of SEGA is coming to life. I never owned any SEGA consoles. But there is no denying that they were coolest console makers of their time.

Big in europe :)

Alot of people had sega consols here instead of nintendo ones, way back then.

So what's the legacy of Sega OP?

Some kind of summary would be nice, the op might as well have nothing.

Sega showed Nintendo how it's done! By dropping out of the console race and plastering their IP's all over their ex-rivals to kill them from within. Genius move if you ask me.

The legacy of SEGA is you can beat anyone in the console race no matter how big they are. Sony did it in 2013. Its the spirit and a small game I was talking about.

I have a love-hate situation with Sega. Most of my favorite franchises are made by Sega and almost all of them are dead. Heck! One had to be kickstarted without them.

Sega didn't beat anything, just themselves.

But I get what you are talking about, the spirit of the underdog and yada yada.  Sony really has it in them, the underdogs, the unlikely winners, go go Sony!! :D

Localize the Yakuza games then we'll talk.

Sega's legacy will be that of a cautionary tale. They can have the best talent, some of the best games, a great reputation, and great intentions, but all it takes is a few egotistical, arrogant individuals to being everything down. If you really think about it, Sega's end didn't come from Nintendo or Sony. It came from a few Japanese men who were pissed off because their American counterpart could run their business better than they could......even though these Americans were hired to do just that. It's kind of sad really.

My first console was a Master System. I think that even my future PS consoles could actually be because I was a Sega guy so I didn't cared much about Nintendo early on. OutRun, After Burner, Altered Beast and my all-time favorite Phantasy Star. They were great. I just wish they could keep these franchises going with good games, but nowadays that seems like asking too much.

I just wish they could leave poor Sonic alone and stop killing his legacy.
