Having bought a game on previous gen and being able to download and play it for free on current gen. Sound familiar? Probably because Sony has been doing it from the start and it's called Cross Buy. The big difference? You can buy games on current gen and play them on previous gen. That's why it's just Cross Buy Lite on X1 :P

Actually it isn't that at all.

Cross-buy is the feature where a publisher allows a person to purchase a current game on an older platform, and get for free the version for the newer platform. 

Playing Xbox 360 games on Xbox One is not the same by any measure.  You aren't getting a new version of the game.  What you are getting when you download the game is a game wrapped in an emulator, exactly as it was with the Xbox 360.  Nothing is upgraded or improved.  The only features that change are the features of the OS, such as Game DVR.  A Kinect for Xbox 360 game isn't going to work on the Xbox One, as an example.  So while Skyrim could be made upgradable, the DLC that added Kinect support wouldn't.      

So, I don't see how that's like Cross-Buy. 
 

This isn't cross buy. They can't be bought on Xbox One. They're 360 games being played on a software 360 emulator.

This is pretty much the exact thing that is the X1 BC. Because MS has to ask for a license to be able to get the free version to the X1.

That's why it's called cross buy lite. Because you can't buy games on X1 to play them on 360. Or maybe in the future we can? I wouldn't see a reason why that wouldn't be possible.

Then it's actual cross buy :)

Maybe cross buy is "Cross buy lite" because only a few of my PlayStation games actually worked on other PS systems. Meanwhile, I'm part of the XB1 preview and I already have like ten 360 games that work on my XB1!

Out of interest, do you need the disc for them all?

I'm wondering if they will sell the games on XBL store as well, to make extra money of course.

Not if you bought then digitally.  A couple were GWG games.  A few were XBL Arcade games.

So that means, they could just sell them on Xbone's store? I'm sure they will too.

Same here.  Just an FYI-- the games that you already bought for Xb360 that aren't on disc appear as "Ready to install" in the "My games" section of the home screen.  Quick and painless.  I'm sure that it will be a pretty seemless transition when they officially roll out the feature.
