Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Being Manufactured In Brazil

The news that everyone expected finally arrived. The PlayStation 4 will be manufactured in Brazil, as it aims to reduce the official price of the device which, since its launch in late 2013, is BRL 4000 - one of the most expensive in the world. With the assembly in the country - the game will be assembled by Flextronics, in the Manaus Free Trade Zone - the new generation of console will cost much less. The announcement was made during the Sony conference for Latin America at E3 2015 on Tuesday (16).

The PS4 manufactured in Brazil go on sale in October, but the new price was not disclosed. "We want to provide the national unit already in October," said Anderson Gracias, head of the PlayStation division in Brazil, in an exclusive interview with IGN Brazil.

"Over the past two years, we hear what Brazilians called for gamers. They wanted a fair price for the console. And with that, we announced the domestic manufacturing," he said

Why consoles cost so much in Brazil. In Finland it cost 379 euros and we have to remember that our salaries are like 10 times bigger also than average Brazilian. That insane price.

Good news for Brazilian gamers.

Great! Glad to hear this for Brazilian gamers who have wanted a PS4! That, coupled with the E3 announcements can only mean things going up from here on out. Fix the game prices, and the region is set to grow!

Huge import taxes. The brazilian government hates free trade, and that mostly hurts the Brazilians.

I wonder if now the PS4s are going to Samba their way off the box when you open it.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

And I thought that we have here in Northern Europe high taxes. Even that I earn a good amount of money every month, I would not buy Playstation 4 for that price tag even that I'm huge Playstation fan. With that money I could get a good used car here.

AFAIK those $4000 are Brazilian real, more or less 1300 US$ or 1150€. It's still a huge amount for a console, but it's much more reasonable.
