I have mixed feelings on St. Anger. It was by far their thrashiest album since Justice, it just lacked the technicality of their past work. It was thrash rock, rather than thrash metal. But at least they had the attitude back. If they can get the riffs and solos to back it up (and if Lars would start practicing again :|), then the new album should be pretty good.

I had mixed feelings too....but some kind of monster was complete TRASH...i cant stand that song at all....but some of the songs were ok....the song st. anger isnt that bad.....

I can't wait for the new Metallica Album, they are my favorite band and the best live band I've ever seen. They have had to take a lot of shit from music fans their entire career for constantly changing their sound over the years. I get the concept behind St Anger but it is their worst album. I think Rick Rubin will bring out the best in them and deliver a kick ass album.

Everyone should give Load another listen, it's very underrated and my second favorite Metallica CD, next to Puppets of coarse.

Im 100% certian that solos will be back. As big of a fan of metallica that id like to think i am i have very few positive things to say about st. anger. Frantics intro was awesome and i thought lar's "tin can" drums sounded cool, other than that i hated it. Still, i am optimistic about the new one.

In the 80s and early 90s I would've agreed, but ever since S&M, kirk and lars f' things up on stage constantly.

I take it you've never heard "the new song"? Or "the other new song"? Both are confirmations that solos will indeed be back.
