I fear Ireland will lose to Argentina in the quarter finals though. Losing leaders like O'Connell, Sexton and O'Mahony to injury and, almost certainly, O'Brien to suspension for that stupid punch is too much for a team that has a limited pool of players to choose from.

It is called being unlucky. Just because they fell into an extremely rare occurence doesnt make it unfair. No one won all their games in their pool so something like this was bound to happen. 

unfair it is not. Thats implying they were short changed in some way, and they werent. They just werent good enough and landed in a nunfortunante situation where points played a role in determing the qualifying teams.

Well there's also the fact that they only had 4 days rest between their 2 biggest games of the pool while Scotland came in to the game fresh.

However much you want to claim it was unlucky rather than unfair there's no disputing that one team only having a short rest while the other comes in to a game at full fitness is unfair. The scheduling could have been been better on that front. I suppose it's difficult to avoid when you have an odd number of teams in a group, and everybody did get their turn with it, but some matches are just more important than others and that was Japan's most important.


This is just an excuse at the end of the day.

I would have liked jpn to through too,  I see it as my 2nd home. The schedule was unfortunate for them but it happens. That is the reality of the situation.  Blaming their loss on that fact is just making excuses for their rather poor play in that match.


Its okay, this is a new era of Rugby for Japan. Ten years from now i expect Japan to be permanently in the top ten teams in the world and i can definitely see them making the QF at the next world cup. With a Japan team also joining the super rugby they'll be the next Argentina.

Well maybe not, host nations don't always make it through ( @ England). But yeah, the future does look promising for Japanese rugby

Hopefully their super rugby team can be moderately successful, although I still don't like the name sunwolves

New Zealand were very, very good this evening. France were a shambles though.

They went into the match against Ireland last week intent on trying to bully Ireland into submission. When that didn't work and Ireland comprehensively outplayed them they, allegedly, revolted against Saint Andre and decided to do their own thing.

Whatever the reason for their capitulation, whether they had used all their ammo last week and had nothing left, or whether they just fell apart under the onslaught of the ABs, they were abysmal.

New Zealand and Australia seem short odds to make the final now. New Zealand are too complete an outfit for a South African side that scraped past a Welsh team that was down to choosing third string players in its back line.

The decimated Irish will struggle to get past Argentina and will probably fall short. The Scots don't have enough depth to beat Australia and I think Australia will have too much for Argentina in the semis

Huh, that's a good point. Not very British of you to go against Ireland Vs...


Well lets be honest here, Ireland are the only northern hemisphere team with a chance of going through. I cant see Scotland beating Australia. And Ireland loses then the world cup will basically turn into the Rugby Championship with Argentina, nz, aus and SA lol
