I don't understand ign s review in progress thing, they've played this game for a long time, completed it a while ago yet they are just now writing their review?

It's because they want to fully experience the online multiplayer. I watched one of their streams and there were barely any people online (just some Nintendo employees and a few other reviewers). It makes sense; they just don't want to have another BF4 situation.

Except when it doesn't actually change anything. The game is going to be "finished" in August regardless of delay or not, so this only gives us the option (because you do not have to buy games day one) to play the game sooner, which works fine here because the core gameplay is already 100% done.

So many excuses. I am really surprised after hearing so many excuses. What about people who are getting day one? They are not important? Review is alreay showing lack of content meaning.

Yep, but it's a good excuse! I'm pretty sure people don't only play a game on the first day they buy it, and for anyone who actually does then what's on disc will be plenty. For the rest of us day 1ers, what's on disc should suffice until the updates start coming, which based on the number of maps and weeks left until August should be every one or two weeks.

That doesn't really make sense considering the public gets the game on the 29th and they want the review out before then

so splatoons 81 seem to be very safe.

So followed by metacritic this game is inferior to Olliolli.

Just realised how much of a joke this reviews are^^

Woah, woah, woah, hold on a minute. Splatoon is being held to different standards than a significantly cheaper indie game?

Someone call the prints, i think we've found ourselves a conspiracy.

Yes, but they don't want to give an unfit score and uninform gamers. If people are really that antsy about a number, then they obviously don't care about the content of the review itself. If the review isn't finished within a day or so of the game's launch, then I think criticism of this format is warranted.

Pretty much exactly what I thought it would get.

waiting to play it with non-reviewers online once the game launches and to test servers in terms of how often there are issues ect.

I expect the majority of their review is already finished, they're just waiting to see how the servers cope once they're open to the public, in-case we end up with another Driveclub/MCC type fiasco. Based on some of the logic in this thread through, i don't think a dysfunctional online mode would be considerd a valid complaint

You noticed that now? I've been seeing this indie bias for a long time. Most AAA games with much lower scores are much better than indie games with higher scores. Its even true when you compare AAA games with each other, many times a much lower ranked game is far more enjoyable. This is the reason why Metacritic should not be taken seriously.

That's not really true. I mean you'd expect most, if not all, people buying a game day 1 to have already made up their mind about it and not to be affected by reviews. Anyone basing a purchase decision on a review is likely to be getting it later anyway.

If they played it long enough to make a conclusion on it in the review in progress, and they aren't going to be playing it when there is a large number of people playing on it, then why wait?
