Technically it can be considered finished as Nintendo's delivered everthing they've promised up to the Splatoon direct. Most of the upcoming stuff are things that take advantage of the core gameplay which is fully intact.

Well, I don't see the reason to complain then. The reviewers considered it a technically finished game as well, and decided that the finished game is way too sparse on content.

Funny. Now that quote is hunting them 20 years later. Half finished games should never be encouraged.

"The most original and enjoyable online shooter of the generation, but the lack of content at launch means it may be months before it reaches its true potential."

This is the kind of things that the worst scores are telling about the game. Do they realize that the score is gonna be forever bad but the game nop?

Do you realize that they can't give a score based on content that isn't there?

No, not really.

Games should come finished to the market. If it has enough content and gets free updates, then that's great, but Splatoon only has 5 maps and like 2 multiplayer modes. That is obviously not that much.

Releasing half finished games should not be encouraged.

Since the moment more content was announced, automatically people took that like if they were delaying half of what they promised. Is not though, every single thing they promised is on the game, but now tons of more content are coming. And the thing is, yeah 5 maps is nor very much, but they the rest are already done probably, at least half of them, they didn´t release them all on purpuse to encourage the people to play every week and learn how to play before they release the most tecnical maps. Reviews are taking that as a bad thing, wich I can understand, I guess, but I don´t agree.

Cod and Battelfield are the best shooters of this gen. Doesn't mean much to beat these games in creativity and enjoyability.

Giggles...  what happend to shooters? Once a proud genre highlighted by Quake and Unreal Tournament now dominated by mediocre games :<

Splatoon is set to release on May 28-29 worldwide, with reviews expected to roll in on the 27th. Thought of as the first major game for the Wii U in 2015, Splatoon has a lot to live up to. With the Global Testfire elevating the hype to incredible heights, only time will tell if the full package manages to deliver. With the console bundle, amiibo, manga and other forms of marketing Nintendo has done to get this game out there, I sure hope it does.

Time gives Splatoon a 10

LoL

Tons of people read it so that´s good.

Looks like it will be a good game for those who are already sold in the core mechanics of the game. I usually dont buy my games at launch though so waiting until august for an even better game isn't a big problem. I can see why people are worried (tbh i am too) that this will be repeated with future Nintendo games but I believe Nintendo has garnered good faith in their dlc practices this gen with games like Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors.

All I'm seeing in every review under 90 is quantity > quality. And no voice chat. You guys nailed it.

It'd be more accurate to say that they're complaining about the quality to quantity ratio not being high enough to justify the price, rather than them believing quantity is inherently more important than quality. How much a reviewer will see the lack of content as an issue will depend on the individual.

So then they're prioritizing content over gameplay despite gameplay being what makes content relevant in the first place, and also disregarding the updates which makes content complaints irrelevant. This I expected of them, hence my 78 prediction.
