Forums - Microsoft - [UPDATE] Microsoft Cannot Remotely Brick Your Xbox One

Etho, they where beta testers. They got a game early so they could test it, not leak it to the general public. This isn't DRM, this broke an NDA, and they can be sued for doing this. So yes it is legal to this, and I think Microsoft's judgement is right. I would say the same thing if Sony did this.

Any retail Xbox One machine can be in the beta test.

So what? They knew what they signed (I hope) and Microsoft had the total legal right to do it. If it where a regular scenario, it would be unfair. But they signed an NDA, which means what Microsoft did was legal. Microsoft could've done something much worse than just brick their consoles ( e.g. sue them and indebt them for the rest of their lives).

Meanwhile at the fortress of all Evil:

I honestly can't say I care when it comes to leakers or pirates getting their boxes locked, if you break the NDA or pirate then you deserve it tbh, I highly doubt MS will just go full Skynet and do this to everyone, at least not the way this topic is clearly trying to veer towards.

But hey Microsoft is pure Evil right?.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

That doesn't make me worry at all. They can block your account already for years and then all the stuff you bought is blocked forever :s.

Such evil.

Imagine if a hacker found out how to do this remotely.....

Imagine some kid bricking (destroying) like 10million Xbox Ones.

I think haveing a option like this for a consol is dangerous, if its mis used by some idiot that figours out how to do it.

What? They can make remotely unusable any retail console... they have the power for that.

It is like somebody go in your home and break your television.

What is mine is mine... no body can make it unusable or have the ability to make it unusable.

They only guy with the rights to brink my console is me and only me.

Right? I actually think this is bad idea.

To design the hardware/software in such a manor you can remotly destroy them, the potential mis use risk is just too huge.

Imagine some kid does figour out how to do it.... who pays the bill?

Does mircosoft just replace say 10million destroyed Xbox ones?
